Plot
In 1969 NASA succeeds in landing a man on the moon, but secretly this is a mission by the government and Sector Seven to investigate a crashed space craft up there, where they find several dead robots. Many years later in 2011 Earth is the home to several of the robot's on the Moon's kind, the Autobots, and they have started helping the humans deal with problems on the planet, such as terrorist groups. After one such mission, the Diego Garcia NEST/Autobot base is decommissioned after an attack on the base by a Decepticon recently. Optimus, Lennox and Ratchet head out to the Ukraine for another mission.
Elsewhere, in Washington Sam now has a new girlfriend, two house-pet Autobots (Wheelie and Brains), but no job, so he's not very happy.
The team arrive in the Ukraine at the old Chernobyl facility where a report of an alien artifact was made by the Soviets of the past, when there, they are attacked by Shockwave and his Driller pet, however Shockwave escapes after the attack, and Optimus gets the artifact, and recognizes it as part of the Ark, a ship he saw destroyed years before. Unknown to the Autobots, Laserbeak kills one of the local team, who informed NEST of the artifact in the first place.
Sam manages to get a job thanks to help from Carly's own boss, and he goes to visit Carly at her work where he meets her boss, Dylan Gould. At NEST Optimus demands to know why he wasn't told about the Ark, and he's told that they didn't know until very recently,a nd he's told where it is. The team believe the Decepticons might go after the ship, so they set off to reach it first, and to check the Crash Vault for anything still on board.
In Africa Megatron is driving around and is informed about the Auotbots heading to the moon, he's glad and tells Soundwave to get rid of his human collaborators now.
On the moon Optimus finds Sentinel's near-dead body and recovers it, along with five of his pillars, however unknown to him, the Dreads hitch a ride back to Earth with them.
At his new work, Sam is accosted by Jerry Wang, who gives him a manifesto full of evidence about what's been happening on the moon and a cover-up. Sam tries to ask him about it some more, but Laserbeak appears and kills him, Sam runs away.
Later, he's picked up Carly and goes to NEST to warn them about the Decepticons being active again and gives them the manifesto before Mearing tells him to butt out of NEST business as he's a civilian. Sentinel is revived by Optimus, using the Matrix and Mearing learns that the pillars they found are parts of space bridge, which she believes could be used to mount a full scale invasion on Earth, so she refuses to give them to him again. Megatron is informed by Soundwave that Sentinel has been moved from the Moon, which make shim happy.
Sam is annoyed by Mearing's comments earlier and decides that he'll help out anyway, he gets in contact with Simmons. The next day Optimus tries to give Sentinel command of the Autobots once more, but he refuses, saying that he's no longer able to lead.
Sam teams up with Simmons and his aide Dutch to work out what's happened, and they learn that several space agency members have been dying recently, and connect the dots to realize that they worked with the Decepticons to hide something on the moon, and are now being killed to silence them. Carly comes home and is angry with Sam for not dropping this, and leaves him, going to a party of Dylan's.
Brains leads the humans to a bar where 2 former cosmonauts are hiding out and learns from them that their photos of the moon showed that there were several pillars on the moon, that have gone missing now. Sam deduces that the Decepticons stole the space bridge pillars to use on Earth, but needed Optimus to revive Sentinel with his Matrix in order to activate them.
Sam warns Mearing about it, and goes with Bumblebee to escort Sentinel back to NEST, but they're attacked by the Dreads on the way, the Dreads are defeated, but upon arriving at NEST Sentinel kills Ironhide, revealing that he is allied with the Decepticons now.
Sentinel continues his attack and kills Skids and Mudflap and steals the pillars from NEST. Optimus and his team follows Sentinel to stop him, but too late, as Sentinel activates the space bridge and allows an army of Decepticons hiding on the moon to invade Earth, the Autobots are forced to retreat.
Sam goes to Dylan's party to take Carly home, but when leaving Dylan is revealed to be working for the Decepticons too, and has Soundwave kidnap Carly and forces Sam to work for them as a spy.
The UN receive a message from Sentinel to exile the Autobots from Earth, or the Decepticons will destroy the planet, as all they want is materials to repair Cybertron. It's agreed to and the Autobots are shipped off to their ship, the Xantium, where they have to leave the planet, thanks to Sam's "spying" the Decepticons know when they are leaving, and send out Starscream to destroy the ship just as it takes off.
Shortly later, Sam, Epps and some mercenaries go to Chicago, which is where the Decepticons have their main base set up after mostly destroying the place. The humans are attacked by a Decepticon, but before he can kill them the Autobots, who faked their deaths to show the world that the Decepticons were lying, arrive and save them, and join them in their battle against the Decepticons.
Megatron and Sentinel have an argument, where Sentinel says they aren't working together, Megatron's working for him. Carly has been taken to Dylan's apartment but is rescued by Sam and Bumblebee who stole a Decepticon ship to break in and attack the apartment and kill Laserbeak.
Dylan tells his masters about the Autobots being alive, and they send out the troops to stop them from getting to the pillars. The battle escalates with several warriors dying, including Starscream, Lennox and his team make it into the city to help out too. AT some point several Autobots are captured and Mirage is executed by Soundwave, who, once distracted by Wheelie and Brains knocking out one of the ships above the city is killed by Bumblebee.
Eventually Optimus reaches Shockwave and Sentinel, the former is killed by Opitmus, and the latter is engaged in battle by the Autobot. Elsewhere, Sam finds Dylan and fights with him, but the evil human activates the space bridge for Sentinel and transports Cybertron itself into the Earth's orbit, however Sam throws Dylan into the pillar and kill him. Carly finds Megatron and convinces him that Sentinel is just using him and he'll be forgotten about when Optimus is killed.
Optimus is about to be killed by Sentinel when Megatron arrives and saves him, attacking his "partner", Megatron, and Optimus finishing him off. Megatron then proposes that he and Optimus work together, with Optimus' response going unnoticed
Afterwards everyone is happy, and Bumblebee hints to Carly and Sam that they should get married and everyone leaves afterwards. Elsewhere however Megatron's "pet" Igor wonders where his master is.

Notes
- This is the adaptation of the 3rd Transformers Movie: Dark of the Moon, it was edited enough to make it fit in with the prequels etc
- At least once, Sentinel is seen in his original colours of gold from the production of the film, rather than his final red.
- Sentinel's rust cannon is located under his shield here, rather than being a separate weapon like in the actual film
- The Twin's deaths and a roles in the film were cut out for some reason, but are maintained here (YAY!)
- Rather than using actual previous generics from the earlier comics, or mimicking the ones used in the film itself, the generic Decepticons here are just new generic ones who don't seem to be based on anyone else.
- Megatron's fate in this comic isn't clear, he is last seen with Optimus at a standoff, so either it ended like in the novel (Where he leaves with his Decepticons to try and rebuild Cybertron) or like in the film (where Optimus kills him) If there are any more comics made for the movies, it will likely follow the Movie's conclusion, as they most often do in the sequels. It's not clear...but the lump on the floor on the last page COULD be him, dead on the floor.
- One of the notable differences here is that Wheeljack and Mirage swapped fates, where Mirage is killed her, Wheeljack was killed in the actual Movie...how will that be rectified now?
