IDW - Robots in Disguise #33

Title: The World of Tomorrow
Written by: John Barber
Art by: Sarah Stone
Letters by: Tom B. Long
Editor: Carlos Guzman
Plot
Wheeljack is woken up from his CR Chamber to find a room full of a bunch of unfamiliar characters (and Ironhide). After a bit of shock about the current affairs on the planet (long lost Cybertronian colonies, Starscream as leader, female Transformers, Megatron's an Autobot etc) he starts to adapt.

Starscream takes Wheeljack out with him to show him what he needs him for now. Outside of Metroplex, they arrive at a warehouse where Wheeljack sees Superion for the first time, and is told that they need to repair him, and Omega Supreme so they can be Cybertron's defences against Prowl and Devastator, which Starscream is convinced are the biggest threats out there now. Starscream introduces Wheeljack to Powerglide and Alpha Bravo, who have volunteered to act as replacement componants for Slingshot, who is very close to death.

After a bit of soul searching at the bar, Wheeljack decides to speak to Starscream again, and goes to visit him, however when he arrives at his office he finds the former Decepticon shouting with someone who isn't there...
Windblade appears and greets Wheeljack properly, telling him that Starscream's been acting like this for a few weeks and gives him a reason to leave with her. The two of them go deeper into Metroplex to his Spacebridge chamber. Windblade explains that the Spacebridge is damaged, but they're working to fix it, to help bridge Cybertron to it's lost colonies. Then segues to how she thinks that Starscream is acting in the best interested of Cybertron, but they might need someone they can all trust to help them out in case it goes wrong.

Wheeljack heads out to where the Crystal City once stood, and finds Ironhide looing at the collapsed Singularity created by Shockwave during Dark Cybertron, and he manages to talk Ironhide out of hs slump over his faith in the future being destroyed, thanks to Shockwave destroying Gorlam Prime.

Wheeljack heads back to Starscream's office again, but this time he sees that Starscream has been arguing with Scoop over a small communicator on his desk all this time! He reveals that Scoop is spying for him on Earth, and has sent some footage of Prowl, as part of Devastator causing trouble on Earth, and destroying things, which even Optimus doesn't seem to be able to control.
Starscream manages to convince Wheeljack to help him by reparing Superion, thanks to Devastator and Monstructor being on the loose, and the Stunticons having the ability to combine thanks to Swindle too. Wheeljack agrees to help, and begins work on repairing Superion...for Cybertron....

Notes
  • This story FINALLY brings Wheeljack back following his near death experience during the Decepticon riots (and of course it features the comedy of introducing him to what's happened over the last 6 in-continuity months). A similar thing happened with Rewind in MTMTE #33 as well.
  • This story also acts as a follow-up to the "Windblade" series (even having the same artist), and a prequel to the upcoming "Combiner Wars" series
  • Despite being shown on the cover, Blurr i not present during Wheeljack's return (he does appear in a bar scene quickly though!)
  • Windblade is shown without Chromia a fair few times here, maybe she's angry with her over the events of "Windblade" still?
  • Superion and Omega Supreme have been revealed to of been moved to a hidden warehouse outside of Metroplex for their repairs.
  • Alpha Bravo is introduced here (he is the replacement for Slingshot in the new Superion toy) and Powerglide is here because his upcoming toy can interact with Superion too!
  • The "party" in Blurr's bar really makes me reminisce over the parties at Auto Assembly! (pointy party hats, funny coloured drinks, karaoke and all!)
  • So....everyone is more willing to believe that Starscream has gone mad than he's just talking to someone over a small communicator?
  • Everyone glosses over what happened during the Windblade series. From an external sense that could be to try and make new readers go read that series themselves. From an in-continuity sense though, Starscream and Windblade agreed to keep it between them to keep everyone happy.
  • It's shown here that the singularity caused during Dark Cybertron IS still there, just tiny now (I'm betting that will be a ajor thing in the future)
  • Scoop is revealed to be with the Decepticons on Earth, but seemingly as a spy for Starscream.
  • The report Scoop is giving to Starscream at the end about Devastator seems to imply this issue is happening concurrently with what is happening on Earth the previous issue.
  • Starscream ACTUALLY seems to consider Wheeljack a friend! (Then again that was true of Metalhawk too, and look what he did to him!)

IDW - More Than Meets The Eye #33

Title: Slaughterhouse Part 2: The Road Not Taken
Written by: James Roberts
Pencils by: Alex Milne
Inks by: Brian Shearer and John Wycough
Colours by: Joana LaFuente
Letters by: Tom B. Long
Editor: John Barber
Plot
Rewind is taken to a table to recover and wake up, whilst the others continue to wonder what exactly is going on, especially with more "continuity" issues they keep noticing. Rewind wakes up, and gets a bit of a shock by Megatron being an Autobot, Skids and Nightbeat being alive, and Nautica being female. Nightbeat asks him what happened to the Lost Light, and he goes into a bit of a state, but ejects a data slug and gives it to Nightbeat.
Meanwhile, Nautica marvels at the exposed Quantum drums and foam outside of the ship (despite them not supposed to being exposed) and after a small talk with Riptide, finally realizes what's happened to the ship. She runs over to Nightbeat and the others and tells them that she thinks that when the Lost Light had it's accident on take off, she believes the Quantum engines malfunctioned and cloned the ship and it's crew, and now that they came into close proximity to it, the universe is essentially "fixing" the problem by removing one of them.

Nightbeat confirms the theory by revealing some of the events shown on the data slug, which had Rung go missing after take off, and Rodimus being killed during the Sparkeater incident, after which Magnus takes command of the ship. After a short while Overlord's presence on the ship is discovered due to Drift caving in and admitting everything. Someone however betrays the crew and disables the cloak on the Slow Cell and alerts the DJD to Overlord's location, leading to their attack and slaughter of the crew.
Rewind reveals that the DJD forced him to record everyone's deaths, ootehrwise they'd kill Chromedome as a punishment. However in the end they try to force Chromedome to erase his memories of Rewind, but he refuses, resulting in Vos killing him using his own finger needles.

After the catch-up, Riptide notices that the Quantum Foam is going a bit out of control, which Nautica realizes means that the below planet (which could be populated) would be in danger of destruction, so the Autobots decide to try and stop it and save the doomed planet in the process, however the foam is so dense now, that only a pair of small Autobots could stop the drums from exploding from contact. kids remembers the shrink ray used on him and some others to solve Magnus' Nanocon problem (in the Annual) and the group go to Brainstorm's lab to try and find the gun.
At the lab, they are unable to find the gun, but do find Brainstorm's dead body, with his face mask removed, which Nightbeat finds a Decepticon insignia on the back of. The group are distressed by this, Riptide theorizes that Brainstorm must have been the one to alert the DJD, and Ravage points out that the OTHER Brainstorm must be a double agent too if this one was.
Seeing the situation as dire as it is, Megatron reveals that due to his old hand gun mode he can mass shift (but didn't say anything earlier as he doesn't want to sacrifice himself for others).

Soon, Rewind and Megatron head out towards the drums under Nautica's instructions and bbegin disabling the drums (turning off the engines fully, and reseting the Quantum incursion, erasing the duplicate Lost Light and it's dead crew, and hopefully bringing back the "proper" version). Rewind realizes that this probably mean he'll go as well, but doesn't care, as at least he'll be with Chromedome this way. They turn off the engines and a white light encompasses them.

Later, the missing crew members are all start returning, in reverse order on board the Rodpod, Chromedome returns and Skids tells him to go outside, onto the hull, where he sees Rewind, and happily goes to sit next to and embrace his resurrected love (N'AWWWWW!!!)
Blaster reports that the Lost Light has returned too, and Megatron asks to be put in contact with Rodimus, so he can warn him about Brainstorm, he also invites Ravage to stay on the Lost Light with him, now that he's seen the terrors of the DJD first hand.
Meanwhile, Nightbeat and Nautica wonder why Rewind survived, Nightbeat jokes that it was "the power of love", but that doesn't explain why he still has the dead Brainstorm's briefcase in his hands...

On thee Lost Light, the crew are celebrating their return in Swerve's bar, when Brainstorm walks in, sits down next to Atomizer and opens his briefcase. A second later the whole bar, except himself are knocked out, and the room starts to go dark....

Notes
  • It's confirmed here that the Lost Light and it's crew were duplicated on take-off. It's also confirmed that the signal the DJD picked up and went after in issue 8 was from this ship.
  • It's interesting that Rung was "lost" on take-off...more suspicions on him, and uniqueness here...
  • Getaway seems to know Rewind, despite him joining the crew AFTER Rewind's death. This could just mean he knew him from before the take-off though.
  • Considering the alternate Crosscut had completed his play within a few weeks of the launch and yet not being finished on the regular version. That could mean Crosscut was amongst the injured from the hull-breach in issue 1, and he just didn't become active again until closer to Dark Cybertron.
  • Brainstorm's face-mask-less face looks like his G1 US cartoon counterpart's rather than his more usual forms.
  • Megatron is revealed to still be able to mass-shift from his days with a hand gun alternate mode.
  • Shouldn't Ratchet have returned to the Rodpod hand-less?
  • Rewind and Chromedome's love of sitting on the hull of the ship, and picturing things in the stars was mentioned in issue 16.
  • Considering his past working with the Institute, i's possible that Brainstorm has been under the influence of a Shadowplay of some sort. Perhaps the opening of his briefcase is the trigger to turn him evil?
  • When Brainstorm opens his briefcase, the bar goes quite dark...sort of similar to what he claims happened when he opened it on Hydrus-5....

5 Things I like OTHER than Transformers

Those of you who know me in the real world will know that I am pretty much obsessed with Transformers, and there's no way to hide from that. I attend quite a big annual Transformers convention, most of my friends are my online Transformers-related pals, and well just look at what I wake up to on an average morning from the picture above!

Something I thought I would address though, is that I am NOT just obsessed with Transformers, yes, it is my biggest obsession, but not my only one. So I figured I would showcase 5 of my other big loves (these are not the only things I love, just the things that I think are most prominent, after the big transforming robots from space! ENJOY!

LEGO!
I can remember when I was a child I was obsessed with my Lego. I would sit around for hours at a time just working on building something random (like a wall to keep my brother trapped in the kitchen) But as I grew up I gave up on this little hobby, and gave all my Lego to my nephew.

However, when the Kre-O lines came out for Transformers I fell in love with the bricks again, and when I started making my "Bricking It!" comic series I got back into collecting it for myself, so I could build set-ups etc. And even now I cam have hours of fun just building something that would amaze my nephew rather than trapping his father :)
Yu-Gi-Oh!
I got into Yu-Gi-Oh when I was in Secondary school, and started playing it then, and for several years I loved it! It was a fun game with a simple play style that anyone could enjoy...unfortunately they then started tampering with the game mechanics and introduced horrible Ban Lists, and all sorts of new terrible monster types like the Xyz and Pendulum monsters (I was okay with the Synchros as they seemed like a natural progression to Fusion cards)

After all this, I do sometimes buy some cards now and again, but most of my love for Yu-Gi-oh is concentrated on collecting the Manga series, and working on my Cyber Dragon deck (which still works great)
Cardfight!! Vanguard
Vanguard is one of my newest fandoms, but it's still very big for me. I picked up my first Trial deck about August time last year, read the rules, got scared of them, and hid the deck and rule book in my drawer never to be seen again.
Later that year I found out about the Cardfight Vanguard Youtube channel and managed to watch it, where they went into HORRIBLY TEDIOUS DETAIL about the game play, that was quite annoying, but also very helpful, and allowed me to understand the rules a lot better (and I know at least one other person to have learned how to play this way, so I'm not being weird!)

Now I have my good old Gold Paladin and Oracle Think Tank decks that I love to use, all I need now are more local players to go up against....oh well I guess I have the other players who go to Auto Assembly still ;)
Movies!!
Before I went to college, I think I only ever saw "Scream" and "Transformers the Movie" movie-wise. I was not interested in films in the slightest. However when I went to college I was forced to take Film Studies as a course to fill up my hours, and I fell in love with them, and loved analysing them, and watching them in general. It's gotten to the point where I have a....fair few films...I won't mention how many to spare people from fainting, but sufficed to say my family use me as a film-lending service from time to time....

I basically watch any genre of film, from kiddie family friendly movies, to the nichest of Vampire..."stories"...yeah let's call it that.....
Pokemon
FINALLY! My biggest non-Transformers fandom would have to be Pokemon. I've loved this series since it first began, and have followed it avidly since then. I love the games, I ADORE the Manga series, and I enjoy the movies (not too fond of the Anime itself right now though)

I honestly cannot count the amount of times I have gone around in my own little world and imagined an adventure in the Pokemon World, and inserting real people into it. It's just such a fun franchise (so long as you don't get too worked up on the competitive side of the games) and you can very easily fall in love with your own little fighting pets.

Seriously...if anyone hurts my Volcarona and Shiny Metagross I cry....:(

So there's my listy thing! If you have any comments, or suggestions for future "non-review" blogs like this one or my others, then please let me know in any comments sections you find this article on!.

Hope you enjoyed yourself, and see you next time!

Plot
Starscream and his Seekers head out to several other planets and recover several Decepticon sub-groups who left due to Scorponok's leadership, and tells them of Megatron's return. The also head to Junkion and recruit the Junkions to build their "World Ship" for the Decepticons to use.

On Cybertron, Alpha Trion is amazed to see Omega Supreme back amongst other Cybertronians again, but cautions Optimus that he won't want to join the battle with the Decepticons, after so long being alone and waiting for Nova to return.

After a short while, the Decepticons head back to Cybertron, and have Trypticon fall from orbit with Metroplex as the target. Optimus orders Metroplex to transform to fight the other giant Transformer. Trypticon lands on the Titan and knocks him over, greeting him as if he knew him in the process....

Notes
  • It appears that a lot of the Decepticons fled Cybertron when Megatron was overthrown in Monstrosity, just to be brought back together now (of course, hardly ANY time has passed since that event...)
  • Gee, I wonder if it's a coincidence that all the teams featured amongst the Decepticons here are all traditionally combiner teams? Wonder if that has anything to do with the upcoming Combiner Wars series?
  • Magmara Nine being nickn-named "The Cauldron" could be a reference to the location featured in the 3H Universe comics
  • Strongbox was last seen being ambushed by the Dynobots...poor fella.
  • The Predacons being found in bestial modes on a forest planet could be a reference to their reappearance in the Dreamwave series too.
  • Most likely the Predacon's bestial modes were to make it easier for them to travel across the jungle-like planet they were on. They're later shown to rescan to vehicle modes by the time of Spotlight: Jazz.
  • Omega Supreme seems to be reluctant to join the Autobots here (we do know he later joins them of course though)
  • This is the first issue to show the Combaticons all together as a whole team! Normally Swindle is shown going solo as an arms dealer type.
  • Nominus Prime is mentioned as having had a Garrison world....guess he was a jerk too after all!
  • Megatron took command of the Junkions after slaughtering most of them in Monstrosity.
  • The Decepticons use a Quintesson cork-screw ship. Most likely having been salvaged from Junkion, as it was likely Pentius' originally.
  • The scene of the Autobots scrambling whilst Metroplex transforms is probably in homage to the 80's Transformers movie's Autobot City battle scene.
  • Trypticon greets Metroplex as if he knows him. This could mean that Trypticon himself, as an ancient Transformer remembers Titans from the past, or maybe Pentius just remembers the Titans from some point in the past?

Title: Slaughterhouse
Written by: James Roberts
Art by: Alex Milne
Colours by: Joana LaFuente
Letters by: Tom B. Long
Editor: John Barber
Plot
The Rodpod heads towards the torn apart Lost Light, and Nautica recognizes the red web around the ship as the Quantum Foam leaking out, meaning the ship is likely to blow up before long. The crew enter the ship through a large enough hole and start looking for any of the missing crew members.
Inside, they find Swerve's bar, but in a different configuration as a playhouse, which Crosscut appears to run.
After a small argument discussion with Megatron over Ravage's placement within the group, Nuatica dn Nightbeat head off to the other half of the ship to look for any survivors there too.
At the playhouse, Ravage catches the scent of Ultra Magnus, and goes to find him, however what they find is a dead Minimus Ambus, outside the Magnus Armour, with a massive Fusion Cannon wound in his torso. Skids accuses Megatron of doing this, as the group have decided that this is a future version of the ship, and that Megatron must have killed him for some reason. Megatron can't account for his future self, so he volunteers to lock himself and Ravage up somewhere whilst the others investigate.

On the other half of the ship, Nightbeat decides to ask Nautica is they have Conjunx Endurae on Caminus, which she says no to, but is amused by how blatant he is in his questioning. They reach the elevator, and find Brainstorm's mysterious briefcase abandoned on the floor...Nightbeat decides they HAVE to open it!

On the main part of the ship, Megatron and Ravage are in a store cupboard, and they have a heart-to-heart, with Megatron declaring that he is sincere with his choice to join the Autobots, as he wants to make a difference. Ravage is unhappy with his words, and wonders whether the old leader is just resting, and will return to his true calling after a while. After their conversation, the lights come back on in the cupboard, and they notice the dead bodies of Ratchet, Drift and Hound inside with them, all with their brain modules stuffed into their open mouths.

Back in the elevator, the dynamic duo open the case, and nothing happens, at least to their perception, unknown to them, time-space around them is warped, until they close the case and give up on it. Outside the elevator they encounter the body of Tailgate impaled on a girder, and Nightbeat notices that despite them being in the engineering floor, and the lowest level of the ship, there's a set of stairs going down.....

Skids, Getaway and Riptide head towards the bridge of the ship, but when they get there they find a pile of dead Lost Lighters, all in alternate mode, and with two holes in them, one for a head shot, and a second for a Transformation cog removal.. These methods, and a call from Nightbeat about Overlord's body being found in the slow cell, and Megatron's report about Ratchet and the others, leads everyone to the same conclusion...the Lost Light was attacked by the Decepticon Justice Division!

The crew regroups next to the Rodpod, and the group explain to Nautica (as the outsider of the group) that the DJD are sadists and have their own signatures, such as Helex forcing his victims to eat their own brain modules, or Tarn removing Transformation Cogs for his addiction. They also deduce that this Lost Light is not just from a short time in the future, it's also from a different timeline, as several things are different, including Swerve's Bar, and the Slow Cell and Overlord still being on board.

The Quantum Foam starts to react with the ship, so the group have to evacuate, but Nautica i reluctant to leave without finding any survivors. Megatron tells her that there won't be any survivors from the DJD, however ravage sniffs someone inside the Magnus Armour...Megatron then investigates, and happily finds an injured, but very much alive Rewind hiding inside.

Notes
  • The Lost Light's quantum foam looks a hell of a lot like blood huh? Sort of adds more to the "The Lost Light is sentient" argument huh?
  • The Lost Light was apparently cloned along with all the original crew upon take off from Cybertron. This opens up a lot of questions, and some potential "untold" tales.
  • One of these untold tale appears to be that Swerve never opened his bar on this version of the ship, and Crosscut turned the area into a playhouse instead!
  • I think it's safe to assume that the Overlord that the DJD detected back in issue 8, as well as the Necrobot's list of dead Lost Lighters were regarding the alternate Lost Light, and not our friends from the series proper.
  • Nautica refers to Ravage as a "she" despite being male. This can eitehr be attributed to the human action of refering to cats as female in spite of gender, or perhaps all denizens of Caminus are female, and she just uses it as the default gender pronoun of choice.
  • Megatron never knew about the Magnus armour until finding the dead Ultra Magnus here. This begs the question of how Tarn knew about it though, as evidenced here, since Tarn would have likely reported this to his great idol Megatron.
  • Nautica's wrench appears to be an analogue of Doctor Who's sonic screwdriver with all it's magical abilities etc.
  • Brainstorm's briefcase was found on an elevator. One of the first times we see i really was when Brainstorm tried to use it as a shield in an elevator during the Sparkeater's rampage...huh....
  • Ravage reveals that the Decepticon's loyaalty to Galvatron is just intact until Megatron returns to lead them. He also reveals that he freed the Lost Light prisoners during Megatron's trial, as a test for Megatron.
  • Drift's death is even more horrible when you notice his Great Sword is sticking out of his head....
  • The scene in the elevator between Nightbeat and Nautica only makes sense when you rearrange the panels to the order of the numbers on the display screen, which neither of them notice due to the timey-wimey-ness of the situation
  • This issue shows off a lot more of the Lost Light crew's alternate modes than we've ever seen before. Therefore I had to hire Nightbeat to help me identify a few of them...
  • Th front cover shows Ratchet in place of Swerve from the DJD battle scene for some reason.
  • This version of Rewind's body looks to be in the same state as the Data Ghost seen by Nightbeat before, possibly hinting that he was trying to communicate with the other Lost Light somehow, maybe via a long range holoavatar?
  • Wonder how Chromedome will react to this new replacement for his love?
  • It seems that the reason for the Lost Light and crew's disappearance may be due to them getting too close to this alternate version, and perhaps both cannot exist in the same space as one another?
  • Something to think of...if the DJD attacked recently, then why was Tailgate still alive despite his Cybercrosis. The DJD must have attacked some time ago, perhaps shortly after issue 8 itself?
  • Megatron is revealed to have melted his fusion cannon as a term of his surrender.
  • The Alternate Ratchet is shown with some gnarled hands, implying they did go a bit off after all without his transplant with Pharma.

IDW - Transformers vs G.I. Joe #2

Title: Targetmasters
Written by: Tom Scioli and John Barber
Art, Colours and Lettering by: Tom Scioli
Production by: Chris Mowry
Edits by: Carlos Guzman
Plot
The Joes start pelting Iacon with their Creeper (Green) Bombs, assuming it is the Capitol of Cybertron, unfortunately for them though, it was abandoned a while ago after the Autobots were defeated. Nearby, Perceptor and his team are watching the vines attacking the city and analyse the substance. Before long they discover the Joe's ship and decide to head out and investigate them.

On the invading Joes ship, Psyche-Out is protesting the use of biological weapons on this alien world, but the other Joes don't care. They locate the Decepticon's base, the giant Decepticon Trypticon, and proceed to attack, but find a forcefield protecting the Decepticon. From within, Megatron sends out his troops to attack the invaders, which includes the giant gestalt Devastator.

After a short battle, most of the Joes run away, and Wild Bill pilots their ship into Devastator, knocking him into his component parts.
Nearby, Perceptor and his team are rolling away, when the Joes try to mingle in with them as traffic, only for Perceptor and Brawn to be captured by Cyclonus and his team. Wheeljack tries to reach the humans, but is attacked by them, and they escape, unfortunately though, four of the Joes are captured by the Insecticons.
The remaining Joes head to an area that they've started terraforming to be habitable for humans and set up camp.

Meanwhile, Scourge and Cyclonus present the captured Autobots to Megatron, who is displeased, and kills Scourge for bringing him relics, especially with the arrival of the humans. Speaking of whom, the Insecticons present their captives to Megatron, and he proceeds to start torturing them.
Unknown to the Decepticons, Mirage has snuck inside Trypticon, and frees the other two Autobots, and creates an Optimus Prime hologram to distract Megatron, as they escape, with the humans in tow, heading back to metroplex.

Back at the Joe's base, the team find Wild Bill alive, despite his kamikaze mission, and also capture one of the "evil alien robots" Wheeljack in their totally heroic creeper vine traps.

Notes
  • Once again, I'm not very familiar with the GI Joe franchise, and coupling that with this art style, I can only really identify characters who are named on page here. Sorry about the lacking character lists because of this!
  • One of the first things the Joes do on Cybertron is bomb what they think is a capitol building with a bio-terrorist weapon....yes...still totally rooting for these guys!
  • The Green Bombs are reuses of the Creeper Bombs stolen by the Joes in issue #0
  • Why are some of the Decepticons (who all turn into jets) flying on external jet things, but others are just flying under their own power?
  • Perceptor is shown using his seldom seen tank mode here...that's one good thing here at least!
  • So Devastator's defeated pretty easily here huh?
  • Megatron has Bumblebee's head on a chain around his neck, he was last seen being killed by Starscream in issue #0
  • As well as the Joes having the Creeper Bombs, they also have a Weather Dominator and are starting to terraform Cybertron....THESE ARE THE HEROES!!??
