Plot
The Joes are in Mexico City fighting a bunch of mutated "Army Ants" and have been shrunk down to their size to locate and disable some warheads that are threatening to detonate and unleash uranium on the country and destroy the place. The Cobra business-man Cesspool is defeated, but immediately tries to save himself by intending to sell out where Cobra Commander is, mostly because he doesn't like her leadership.
Meanwhile at Cobra's secret base, Crystal Ball commences a ritual using the Dire Wraiths and Cobranarchists to create a new species of "Vipers" for Cobra to use as soldiers. They then turn on the Wraiths and have the Vipers devour them. Destro questions the new Cobra Commander on whether the Vipers were transformed or just replaced, to which she just doesn't care.
At the Lemuria, Matt Trakker of MASK has started working with the Joes as a probationary member, but Grand Slam is getting fed up as he sees his position as the tech guy being usurped by the able-bodied Matt. Trakker however disagrees and starts plans about getting Grand Slam more mobile again.
Elsewhere, Roadblock is contacted by Duke, but the former is furious with Duke for allowing the Baroness to escape and become the new Cobra Commander. Duke however just wants Roadblock to give him a back-check on the new Joe members so they can see if they can be trusted, but Roadblock is unwilling to "turn" on his allies and breaks off his contact with Duke, destroying his phone in the process.
Scarlett later meets with Roadblock, and working from Cesspool's information they know the Cobra base is somewhere at the North Pole. She has Roadblock lead a team up there to locate and possibly take Cobra Commander out, so he has Cover Girl. Quick Kick, Spirit, Salvo and Spitfire join him.
The team arrives at the North Pole, but they find it as a forest instead of a large ice-cap, regardless the team are dropped off, with Cover Girl showing off her new hovering vehicle built by Matt Trakker, and the team start to hunt down Cobra Commander, however they don't get too far before Spirit locates something...a hoard of Raptors!!

Notes
- So here comes the start of the already cancelled GI Joe sequel series, and oh wow the artwork looks worse than it did in the previous series. Just look at that creeper shot of Matt Trakker just talking to Grand Slam in the plot section as an example!
- The Army Ants are another Hasbro franchise that has been added to the IDW Hasbroverse... pity they have such a small role and in such a bad comic though...
- So in what seems like a resolution to the Dire Wraith alliance with Cobra, they use their power to convert the Cobranarchists into literal Viper-Human hybrids who then eat the Wraiths...yay...
- Destro is seen amongst the Cobra troops, and even gets some lines....HE IS MEANT TO BE ON CYBERTRON IN JAIL!! Why doesn't this comic follow it's own continuity? Unless they're trying to imply that one of them is an imposter (probably this one due to him being so pathetic acting around Cobra Commander) then this is just ridiculous.
- So remember when it was originally planned for this series to be named "GI Joe: Unmasked" and would be a joint line between GI Joe and MASK? Well that appears to have been forgotten about by Sitterson! Matt Trakker appears for about two pages and just acts as a potential replacement for Grand Slam as the tech-guy
- Wait...why is Grand Slam still in a wheelchair all the time? We've seen him and other Joes using high-tech devices, and we've even seen the US and China using mech suits based on Cybertronian technology...why haven't they just built him a pair of mech-legs or something yet?
- Roadblock acts like it's Duke's fault that Baroness escaped custody and became the new Cobra Commander...why? How was he to know that the convoy would be ambushed, if anything this makes it seem like there's a mole within GI Joe informing Cobra about things. Scarlett was holding Baroness prisoner without trial illegally, that was a correct course of action.
- Also! All Duke is asking Roadblock to do is to vet the new members of GI Joe that have been brought in, especially the international members...this is what happens with ALL military squads to make sure there's no conflicts of interest or whatever.
- NEXT DAY EDIT: I just remembered whilst thinking about this topic for another post I'm working on. Duke was the one who invited Spitfire to join the Joes....WHY DIDN'T DUKE DO THAT BACKCHECK HIMSELF AT THE TIME?!?!
- Skywarp mentions that Rock 'n Roll has dreams about Jem, and is a fan of "The Holograms" girl group. This was hinted at in Rock's profile page in the Sourcebook as he was a roadie for them in the past.
- So...Roadblock's choices for his team to take down the new Cobra Commander includes a still recovering injured guy and two new recruits? I understand Cover Girl with her new vehicle, and Spirit for his tracking skills, but why the other three? Why not any other three Joes? I guess he could be trying to prove to Duke that the new members are worthwhile, but is this really the time to do that?!
- Oh and Snake Eyes and Helix are both in cells for going AWOL in a previous issue
- Ugh...all I can really say now is that I'm glad this series is only 3 issues long...it may be annoying to have it left on a cliffhanger, but I'm sure the next incarnation will just sweep it away...
