IDW - Scarlett's Strike Force #3

Written by: Aubrey Sitterson
Art by: Nelson Daniel
Colours by: Ryan Hill
Letters by: Taylor Esposito
Editors: Tom Waltz & Chase Marotz
Publisher: Greg Goldstein
Plot
The Joes in the jungle-overgrown Arctic ride around, following a smaller team led by Spirit, trying to find the Cobra Temple, ultimately locating it, and finding a massive army of Vipers surrounding it.
The Joes attack the Vipers, but Quick Kick remains behind, with "Friday", when the former discovers Storm Shadow following him, and the two start to fight.
Quick kick appears to be winning the fight, until another ninja joins in, the female, former Storm Shadow, who has joined up with Storm Shadow as his sidekick, Tempest. The two escape with a ninja smoke ball, allowing them to escape, promising to fight him again later.
In the temple, Crystal Ball is putting the final touches on his master-plan, all whilst the Joes outside and tearing through the Vipers outside. Salvo and Spitfire defy orders and enter the temple, gunning down a bunch of Vipers performing some sort of ritual. Unfortunately this was part of their plan, as they bleed out, powering up an engraved mural of Golobulus, which lights up.
The temple starts to shake, as the Joes just manage to escape, the members of Cobra rise up on a meteor and plan to resurrect Golobulus from the stars, hoping for it to devour the planet below....

Back on the Lemuria, Helix and Snake Eyes are still in the brig, beginning a plan to start a game of D&D when the power goes out, forcing their energy-bar powered cells to go out, allowing the prisoners to escape.
Scarlett soon screams at Shipwreck for his new power source failing, and has him and Gung-Ho work on repairing it now.
The escapees soon come across Skywarp, who explains that he is the one who disabled the power grid, as a way to allow them to escape and join forces with Duke. The two are sent off to grab a vehicle to escape with...

Notes
  • YAY! It's the last issue! And without failing to disappoint, it ends on a cliffhanger. Oddly this issue doesn't include any "The end" or "letter from the writer" section, as you would normally find in a final issue of a series. I guess IDW didn't want Sitterson to write something stupid again, like he did about 9/11 last year....
  • Um....how did the Joes not notice the giant temple surrounded with snake monsters with a giant red sky around it? Did they really need to bring Spirit with them to find it?
  • In case it wasn't clear, Helix is getting Snake Eyes to play Dungeons and Dragons (another Hasbro product) whilst in the brig.
  • So...my only guess for why the hydrothermal generator scene was added last issue was so they had a reasonable method for Skywarp to disable it in this issue
  • Quick Kick brings up how Storm Shadow owes him some teeth....then shows that his mouth has no missing teeth (certainly not the ones he was missing before anyway!)
  • So...Lady Storm Shadow, a powerful warrior, who was upgraded with Dire Wraith technology, and was strong enough to disable a Eukarian, Antagony, all by herself, was apparently defeated by the Male Storm Shadow, and forced to be his sidekick....yeah I don't accept that!
  • My guess last issue turns out to be wrong, Skywarp's assets to be given over to Duke were Helix and Snake Eyes, not the captive Dire Wraiths.
  • Last issue, Crystal Ball appeared to be talking about using Rock 'n Roll's blood to power up the resurrection of Golobulu, but here they just use some of the Vipers instead....is this bad writing, or did Sitterson just change his mind?
  • Cobra Commander screaming "Cobra-lalalalalala!" is a reference to the 80's GI Joe Movie.
  • So....I know everyone has already brought this up, but why are Lady Storm Shadow, Destro and Dr Mindbender on Earth? They were all major parts of the Iron Ring's attack on Cybertron, and are all being held in cells on Cybertron. We know this issue is relatively contemporary to Optimus Prime, as both SSF#2 and Optimus Prime #15 mentioned/showed the newly opened Ore-13 mine in Kentucky, and we know from the latter that Colton, and his cohorts are still imprisoned at that time...so why are they here?!?!
  • And in a scene that was cut from this issue, following the final page, the Solstar Order send a team to Earth to kill all the Dire Wraiths impersonating the Joes and Cobra members, freeing their captive real counterparts, allowing for this series to just be forgotten about in a later reboot :)

IDW - Aw Yeah Revolution! #3

Written and Drawn by: Art Baltazar
Edited by: David Hedgecock
Publisher: Ted Adams
Plot
The battle between the heroes and Cobra has begun. Snake Eyes is fighting with Storm Shadow and Rom traps some Cobra Troopers inside his force-field. Rom gets grabbed by the brainwashed Optimus Prime, who goes on to shoot Acroyear with his eye lasers (I guess he has those here). Rom gets an idea, and erects his force-field around himself and Optimus, and launches both into orbit, he breaks free from Optimus and lets him float away, hoping that he'll be far away from Cobra to break free from their control.
Rom notices that the asteroid filled with Dire Wraiths is heading towards Earth, so he tries to slow down and/or stop their travel.

Back on Earth, the rest of GI Joe are led towards the battle field by Space Glider, whilst Destro arrives through his MASS device, and meets with Karza and Cobra Commander, the former of which shows off his Orbsah powers and grows to the size of a Transformer. He's about to stop on everyone and win the fight, when the Dire Wraith asteroid hits him in the head and knocks him out. Acroyear takes the opportunity to remove the Gem from Karza, causing him to lose his new powers and return to his natural size. Karza produces his sword and fights with Acroyear one-on-one.
Elsewhere, the crashed asteroid is opened up, and the Dire Wraiths pour out and attack Rom as one. Destro watches as the Wraiths attack Rom and the Cobra Troopers, when he notices the Orbsah Gem discarded on the floor, he takes it and gives himself the power.

Rom breaks free from the Wraiths and goes after Destro, intending to destroy the Gem, and it is causing all this trouble, however Destro uses the Gem to blast Rom back into the cosmos. Karza breaks away from his fight with Acroyear and demands that Destro give him the Gem back, however Destro dismisses him, and sends him, Acroyear and Space Glider back into Microspace.
The forces of Cobra appear to be about to win, with Destro planning to add the Wraith's power to Cobra's and conquer everything, until Optimus returns with a bunch of Autobots, ready to fight them as well...

Elsewhere in the universe, Rom is panicked as the Wraiths are still on Earth, so he races off towards Earth again, hoping to get back in time to save the planet and the universe from their threat....

Notes
  • So...this is a weird one...this is the last issue of the series, but definitely ends on a cliffhanger. You could argue that Rom being launched into the cosmos, and the Micronauts being sent home have put things back to the relative status-quo, but the Dire Wraiths are now on Earth, and the Orbsah Gem is in Destro's hands. My guess is that the remainder of this series will be released with the TPB, so if it is, then I'll upload my thoughts on those editions. Remember that the series was originally slated to be a five-part story, which was reduced to three, so this is quite likely.
  • I would question how Karza knew who the Dire Wraiths were, but the comic did establish that he's read the actual Revolution comic already....so....well played!
  • So, from Rom's claim that the Orbsah Gem is the reason their respective groups have come into conflict (which is true) it sounds like he's saying that crossovers are bad (since Orbsah is Hasbro backwards, and they created the main crossover series')
  • Huh...despite it being badly damaged last issue, Microspace seems fine now! Good thing space displacement devastation isn't a long term problem huh?
  • Jazz's design, briefly seen behind Optimus, appears to be based on his Robots in Disguise 2015 incarnation rather than the usual G1 version.

Plot
During the last Ice Age on Earth a Eukarian shuttle, the Axalon, carrying the device that will one day be known as the Talisman, on orders from their master, when they detect a signal being sent to Prowl on an automated loop. The crew comment on how the figures in the footage look familiar, even looking like their commander, Domitius Major, but before anything else can really happen, another ship, piloted by Shockwave attacks the Axalon and causes it to crash on Earth, Shockwave follows to investigate the remains.
Shockwave finds the crew inside injured, but being quickly repaired by the Talisman. One of the Eukarians, Centurion, wakes up and sees the footage, and is confused when he sees Bumblebee, whom he has a striking resemblance to, and asks if he is Bumblebee...giving Shockwave a horrible idea....
Shockwave alters the minds of the Eukarians, along with their bodies to become analogues of several prominent Autobots and Decepticons, and watches how they interact and fight, so as to study how the war could progress. After a while, the Eukarians begin to run low on Energon and head into a cave to enter stasis lock. Shockwave leaves, noting the small drones being created by the Talisman from the Axalon, and plans to return once he tends to his Regenesis Ores on the planet...an errand he never returns from....
After a long time, the Eukarians wake up in the Steel Revolution and they take on the roles of their namesakes even without Shockwave's prompting, they help John Henry with his railroad work, fight off an Elder God, and eventually wind up in WW2...where their fake memories begin to unwind, resulting in many of them dying, including the robot who believes himself to be Optimus Prime.
Sgt Savage and his Screaming Eagles approach a fortress in France where they encounter more of the Iron Troopers they found in Kalistan, but more shockingly, they encounter Centurion and the Eukarian that was made to resemble Shockwave fighting, with Centurion destroying his enemy, leaving him the last known Eukarian on the planet...
Centurion/Bumblebee asks Savage and his team to return him to his ship so he can die there in peace, as he now remembers where it is...

Savage, Kreiger and Centurion arrive in Brasnya, which is where the Axalon crashed, and Centurion soon locates the downed ship, as well as taking down more of the Iron Troopers, seemingly guarding the ship. Unfortunately, the Iron Troopers have combined, and taken over the corpse of "Optimus Prime", angering Centurion who sees this as desecrating a war hero. Despite attacking them however, all "Optimus" does is activates a program within the Axalon which transports it, and Sgt Savage who was still inside away to an unknown location. Out of rage, Centurion tears apart the mockery of his friend, and begins to scream in anger. Kreiger sees this, and proposes to Centurion that they work together now, since both are alone in the world....

In the modern day, Tomax Paoli arrives at his office  where he encounters a hologram of Kreiger who warns him that a team involving Action Man and a GI Joe member are approaching him, and they need to be fended off. Tomax is unhappy as he doesn't want to resume the Cobra Commander guise, but he is forced into the role. Tomax gets kitted out, and soon encounters Action Man, who he quickly shoots out of a window, only for the young hero to be caught by Kup outside. Mayday attacks Tomax in retaliation, whilst Centurion transforms outside, and assumes that Kup is just another lost Eukarian and proceeds to attack him, and put him out of his misery.
Whilst the rest of the team are fighting Centurion and Tomax, Blackrock is interfacing with the Iron database in order to discover the hidden truths about the Talisman and the other secrets they've been uncovering lately. Unfortunately, it is what he was worried about, the Talisman came from Onyx Prime, the same being who planted Blackrock on Earth and manipulated his life. The small Autobot heads off to be a hero now....
Inside, Mayday manages to disable Tomax by shooting him in the neck and captures him Outside, Blackrock approaches the fighting robots, and he reveals that he and Centurion have a shared "parentage" of Onyx Prime, and that they can take him to meet the real Optimus so he can help him. Centurion agrees, having never learned about the "real" Cybertronians before now.

Soon, the Revolutionaries and Centurion head off, with Tomax as their prisoner, but he knows nothing about what Kreiger or Ironblood's plans are, they simply used him to distract the Revolutionaries. The team now plan to head towards Brasnya to locate the Axalon, and finally resolve all of this.

In Brasnya, Doctor X and her troops are preparing the final steps of their master-plan, but decide to leave their facility, since they doubt the Revolutionaries would be too happy with how they've been keeping the Atomic Man hidden there are experimented on!!

Notes
  • Okay...wow...this story actually blew my mind when I read it. No joke here. They actually implanted the old Hearts of Steel stories, including the Infestation 2 story into the main IDW continuity, and made it work...I swear John Barber is a witch...
  • The flashback scenes in this comic are all done by Guido Guidi in his retro comic style, like he used in the old MTMTE and RID Annual issues.
  • The Axalon was the name of the ship used by the Maximals in Beast Wars, and it also shared the same design as the Eukarian ship here. Shockwave's ship is based on the Darkseid, the ship used by the Predacons in the same series.
  • So, yeah, the entirety of the Hearts of Steel story is revealed to have just been a cruel experiment by Shockwave to try and gauge how the war would progress....HOLY SHIT DUDE!!!
  • Also, thanks to the Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook, we were spoiled about all of this a WEEK EARLY. bloody publication dates....
  • The Talisman is confirmed to be a device created by Onyx Prime, and carried to Earth by the Eukarian crew of the Axalon, which was separated from the ship by Shockwave, waiting to be found centuries later by Kreiger and the Adventure Team.
  • So, on top of Shockwave manipulating their memories (I assume he used some sort of Mnemosurgery) he also repainted the Eukarians to match the Cybertronians...he may have too much time on his hands...hand....
  • When Shockwave leaves the Eukarians alone to go into stasis, he is going to meet his fate and the Dynobots as shown in his Spotlight issue.
  • Included in the flashbacks of Centurion are recreations of scenes from Hearts of Steel and Infestation 2, and shows an otherwise undocumented set of scenes from WW2 where the Eukarians are drawn into the war, and their original memories are stirred. The only thing that was implied to be in the Hearts of Steel universe was the Conspiracy crossover comic, which was set in the X-Files IDW comic universe...so it's an aberration and should be ignored okay?
  • So, the teaser of the villains having HOS Optimus Prime/Domitius Major was  pretty much a red herring, since he's already long dead, but they do shockingly have the thought-to-be dead Atomic Man in their warehouse...something that was ALSO spoiled by the Sourcebook! No wonder the remainder of the series has been held off to pretty much the end of the pre-First Strike stories!
  • So...does anyone else want to see a scene where Centurion is taken to Cybertron just to troll Starscream with his "hallucination" getting a physical form now?

IDW - GI Joe vs the Transformers #12

Written by: Tom Scioli and John Barber
Art, Colours and Lettering by: Tom Scioli
Production by: Chris Mowry
Edits by: Carlos Guzman
Publisher: Ted Adams
Plot
Arcee and some other Autobots who feel guilty about the Earth being blown up decide to merge together and become Defensor, and vows to defend the remaining humans.
Elsewhere Doc is in the middle of performing an autopsy on Wild Bill, when he comes back to life and starts devouring the doctor and everyone else as a zombie!!! (that last part was a joke, he just comes back to life...my idea would be better)

Cobra Commander is travelling across Cybertron and reclaims Cobra for himself, and kills all his replacement commanders. Later he returns to the Cobra headquarters where he reunites with Serpentress/Baroness and they start making out after showing off their hideous scars and they rejoin forces.
In the afterlife Optimus meets with Grimlock, and the two run to escape from Kremzeek,. who is going to eat them. The two of them soon arrive at the entrance to the Matrix Pantheon where Bludgeon is there, and asks for their keys to enter. Optimus displays his, but Grimlock doesn't have one as he never wielded the Matrix. Optimus decides to give Grimlock his key, so Grimlock can go into the Matrix and join the Council of the Fallen (those talking heads that appear when you enter the Matrix in the cartoon) and Optimus stays behind in the afterlife.

Back on Cybertron, Fort Max, now controlled by Snake Eyes (I dunno why) meets with Scorponok, controlled by Scarlett (I sorta know why) The two humans meet each other between the two Transformer's tongues (Seriously! Look at my notes section image!!) and Scarlett forces Snake Eyes to reveal his face scar to her, and the two reunite.
Elsewhere, Megatron has a spasm from the Matrix, which releases the Council of the Fallen, and he is angry that Optimus isn't amongst them, but instead Grimlock appears, and starts to taunt Megatron, ordering him to give back his stolen body parts.
Elsewhere again, Scorponok and Fort Max have joined up with the main Autobot and Joe forces and force Metroplex into his robot mode, so he can join the battle as well.
The Autobots and Joes march on to battle to defeat Megatron and his forces, and to save the tiny Sun.

Wheeljack uses Blaster to shatter Trypticon's shields, and the Joes fire the "Green Bombs" at the Decepticons, covering them in vines etc to disable them. The Autobots attack the Decepticons in their confusion, and Metroplex smashes into Trypticon's chest, and the Joes and some Autobots invade the giant Decepticon.
Outside, Cobra Commander arrives with Doctor Venom, and bargains with Megatron for him to give him Mars after the battle, if he removes the vines. Megatron agrees, since he doesn't believe Mars will exist after the Sun vanishes, and Venom destroys the vines.
Below them, Defensor is being beaten by Typticon (who, up to about 2 seconds earlier was tied up by vines) but Defnsor is saved by the Joes, who use a vehicle to aim Defensor's gun and allows the Autobot to shoot Trypticon.

Baroness meets with Crystal Ball, the Cobra soothsayer, who predicts that Baroness and Cobra Commander will have a child soon that is the TRUE Cobra Commander, Serpentor.

Notes

  • Defensor is made up of the new team of "Rescue Bots" instead of the Protectobots.
  • Despite this, Defensor looks an awful lot like he would with the traditional Protectobots used, except for the lack of Groove, and there being a bright pink crotch made from Arcee
  • No Arcee! Don't combine with Prowl! He'll make you annex a populated planet!!!
  • Blades is based on his Aligned Rescue Bots counterpart, but with more of a G1 colour scheme.
  • Peacemaker is based on his G1 counterpart, but resized to interact with a Gestalt.
  • Wild Bill was killed in a plane crash, and has been dead for a week maybe? So yeah....despite this, he's totally fine and not brain damaged at all when he comes back to life.....of course!
  • The Interim Cobra Commander character is based on the "Battle Armour Cobra Commander" toy from 1987...I guess Cobra Commander hated that redesign?
  • The afterlife being a digital landscape for Transformers has been seen a few times before in the past, including when Optimus was trapped in Ethan Zachary's computer game, and when IDW Optimus "died" briefly and saw Nova Prime in the interspace thingie in Escalation.
  • Oh shock and horror...the Serpentress is actually the Baroness in disguise to hide her "hideous" scars from issue 0.....I really hope this wasn't supposed to be a surprise reveal, as it was realized by everyone when she was revealed.
  • It's revealed that Baroness rewrote some of the Cobranomicon to help the alliance with the Decepticons.
  • So Cobra Commander is a lizard man? Are we sure that Billy/Stormshadow II is REALLY his biological son?
  • So the Baroness' horrible scars from a plane exploding are some slight blemishes and a scar from her glasses? Big whoop-ti-do!
  • Why is Bludgeon guarding the Matrix Pantheon?
  • So...Optimus has Matrix "Stigmata"? You're really pushing the Jesus metaphor a bit far guys!!!
  • The Master Sword (from the Headmasters TV series) is infused with the spirits of the Ninja Masters from the GI Joe framchise...where this came from is not explained due to the series being shortened in some way.
  • Fort Max and Scorponok touch tongues.....EWWWWWWWW
  • So we learn here that Scarlett took command of Scorponok from Zarak,. who I guess she killed. I have a few questions though...what happened to all the Cobra and Decepticon personnel inside Scorponok we saw last time, and what happened to her hair? Last time we saw Scarlett she had half her hair shaven off, but now she has a full head of hair again (and in a scorpion tail theme)
  • Considering what a homicidal bitch Scarlett's been so far in this series, I was actually shocked that she didn't attack Snake-Eyes immediately after he showed her his horrible face scar.
  • Also, Sbake-Eyes, please put some sort of bandage on that wound, it looks like it's going to get infected with just your mask over it!
  • Grimlock appears to be able to possess his decapitated dinosaur mode head...now this could be just in Megatron's head, but from Destro's reaction it's probably not.
  • After this scene, Megatron no longer has his Grimlock parts on his body, so I guess he got rid of them to stop further ghosties.
  • I know I shouldn't be expecting much from this series, but HOW does the slug monster Metroplex turn into his usual G1 design, with all his normal kibble instact?
  • Rodimus rides Sky Lynx like a horsie.....okay...whatever....
  • Devastator is shown active again, despite the Constructicons complaining earlier that with Long Hual dead, they could no longer combine any more. I guess Long Haul got better or something, this is a badly written series after all.
  • So those tendrils have the Sun totally surrounded here? last issue showed Prime no where near the size of the Sun, so how is this a thing? If he's absorbed so much solar energy already that it's shrunk the Sun down to the size of a small planet, then I think the Joes and Autobots have already lost this battle!
  • They probably aren't them, but I'll say the second orange "Recordobot" and red Tracks are actually Stripes and Road Rage, just so this comic can have something good in it (though it's probably just bad colouring rather than that)
  • Oh look a bit of continuity! Doctor Venom was the one who developed the Creeper plants, so it makes sense that he's have the ability to destroy/defeat them
  • Also...oh no...Venom has betrayed the Joes...I never expected that at all...oh shockers!
  • Where is Baroness getting her fortune told? Did Crystal Ball just bring all his occultic paraphernalia with him to Cybertron with him? Also, I thought the Cobra guys were based in Trypticon, so why aren't they collapsing from him being shot just before this scene?!
  • Serpentor is revealed to be the future child of Baroness and Cobra Commander, who will grow up to be their new commander....except....
  • Next issue is the last one! Hooray!!
  • Seriosuly, I doubt the mutant Serpentor baby will come to anything, Baroness will probably be killed next issue or something.

IDW - Transformers vs G.I. Joe #9

Title: Stick to your guns
Written, Drawn, Coloured and Letters by: Tom Scioli
Production by: Chris Mowry
Edits by: Carlos Guzman

Plot
Laird Mac Cullen, along with one of his loyal warriors and his mute brother visit a land where they seek to see some sleeping gods. The guards from a Serpent cult allow them to enter the cavern, but only if they promise to not touch anything within the cavern, or to disturb the gods.
Inside the cavern, the mute brother finds a small glowing cube on the floor and seems to be possessed by it, he inserts it into a slot, despite complaints from his brother and friend. This action actives Teletran-One, who sends out a Sky Spy drone to scan the trio of humans, who are stunned by the strange language it is speaking.
In the aftermath one of the "gods" wakes up, and scares the humans, causing them to attack it with their swords and flaming torches, during this attack, the energon cube inserted into the computer runs out, and the "god" and Sky Spy collapse. Afterwards, the humans salvage parts from the "god" assuming it was a test from the gods, and see this as their reward.
The trio leave the cavern, and are attacked by the serpents for stealing from the gods, and the Cullens are forced to flee on their boat.

The trio return to their land with their ship destroyed, and the loyal warrior dying from his injuries, once there however, the brother reveals that he has gained the ability to speak, and says that the gods have told them to "Transform".
Soon, the warrior dies from his injuries, and is given a funeral on a pyre, which lights up the night, revealing the Viking ships, who have come to invade the land are here.

The Vikings from the Giant Island Jotunheim invade the highlands, but are countered by Mac Cullen and his troops. Despite his confidence, having been gifted by the "gods" the Laird is killed by the Vikings. His brother goes to defend his body before the Vikings can get there, and uses his new invention, of a gun to kill one of the head Vikings, and he dons the stolen "god's" face before the Vikings flee the magical weapon.

Later, the brother, now identifying as Destro returns to the god's island where he learns that the serpents revealed the Highland's location to the Jotuns, as revenge for stealing from the gods. Destro uses his new gun to kill the serpents and takes over the land.
Over time, Destro has a castle built on the island, over the Ark and develops his technology there, and even uncovers the ability to surpass death by modifying his body to it's current form, and uses the technology he's acquired to supply weapons to both sides of every war since his empire was forged.
After World War 1, Destro had his castle moved to California, as he foresaw some new action happening in the near future.

Towards the end of the 20th Century Cobra Commander visits Destro and pays him off to only supply weapons to him and his Cobra army, meaning that he'll have the advantage in the war against GI Joe, to which Destro agrees

Notes
  • Surprisingly, this issue is probably the best of the series...that doesn't mean it's good, it just isn't as brain-smackingly bad as the rest so far.
  • Once again, the front cover has absolutely nothing to do with the contents.
  • The Cobra cult guys are most likely related to Koh-Buru-Lah in some way.
  • The Ark's location and condition is very similar to it's G1 cartoon counterpart.
  • The Transformers in the Ark use familiar character models, but due to colours they are unidentifiable
  • One of the things stolen by Mac Cullen is a Transformer's face, which is later used for Destro's robotic face.
  • It's unclear how future Destro gained the ability to speak...it may be due to the Sky Spy unit, but it seems unlikely since there's no reason for it's scan to fix his muteness.
  • The ancient Joes (from Giant Island Jotunheim) are shown to be an invading Viking army who like to kill and even have some very rapey faces when they prepare to finish off Destro and his brother.
  • How did Destro get the time to design and build his gun? The Vikings appeared just after the funeral, which appears to have happened just after they returned home!
  • It turns out Destro's whole empire of weapons production etc has been made from using the technology he's claimed from the Ark.
  • The ladies on the last page all look like Baroness, but in swim-suits, much like how similarly dressed women are used in (mostly) American TV shows to show off glamorous prizes.

Plot
Bumblebee is being chased by Starscream through space,, and Bumblebee is forced to crash his "ARK" into the planet Earth to hide out.
Nearby, GI Joe have begun an attack on a Cobra facility, but have to deal with some Creeper vines Cobra have developed. Scarlett tells the team that whoever brings her Cobra Commander's helmet, she'll marry (as he killed Snake Eyes' sister, and her parents). Duke and Snake Eyes take her up on her offer.
The team manage to track down Doctor Venom and Major Bludd, and find boxes full of Creeper products. The team split up to investigate the rest of the base to find the Commander.

Snake Eyes ends up in the car pool and finds Starscream wandering around, assuming he's just a BAT he tries to blow him up with a grenade, but it just gets swatted away. Bumblebee however decides to break his cover and takes Snake Eyes away in his car mode, to save him from the explosion and Starscream.
Scarlett and Duke find Cobra Commander and Baroness, but they manage t escape in a jet. Scarlett and the others follow in some stolen jets as well.

Bumblebee lets Snake Eyes out and begins fighting with Starscream. Snake Eyes manages to get onto the Commander's jet and whilst Scarlett throws some of the Creepers onto the jet, which begins to destroy it. Snake Eyes stabs Cobra Commander in the chest, however Commander manages to shoot Snake Eyes in the face as well.
The Joes destroy the Commander's jet as Snake Eyes is rescued by Duke and Scarlett. Everyone escapes the area, even Starscream, albeit missing a wing, Bumblebee however is taken in by the Creepers and is lost.

Later in the PIT, Snake Eyes is on bed rest, and has his face fully bandaged.Scarlett visits him, and says all they found was Cobra Commander's helmet, then asks him if he's thought about a date for their wedding yet...

Even later on, deep in space Starscream has returned to the Decepticons with Bumblebee's head, which Soundwave is now scanning for any information they can use against the Autobots. Megatron is pleased with Starscream for his work today, and offers him anything he desires.

Notes
  • This comic was released as part of Free Comic Book Day 2014 as the preview for the upcoming Transformers vs GI Joe series. This was previously done in 2012 for Regeneration One as well.
  • The Transformer's language is shown as electronic signal which are usually translated for the audience.
  • The comic is given as ageing effect to make it look like it's from the 80's.
  • Starscream seems to actually be loyal to Megatron in this continuity, and even seems to see him as a "god"...this scares me....
  • Bumblebee similarly refers to Optimus as "Lord Optimus" here...this seems a little more formal than Optimus would usually like.
  • Bumblebee's ARK (Autobot Resistance Karrier) crashes into Earth in a similar fashion to the Ark in the G1 cartoon and Marvel comic.
  • Snake Eyes actually has no facial scars for the majority of this story, and chatters away like mad...this is quite unusual!
  • No-one paying attention to the 2 Transformers fighting in the skies during the battle is most likely due to Cobra's over-usage of robotic BATS through their adventures.
  • Straxus sure does look a bit upset in the corner of the Decepticon base huh? Wonder if Megatron has just usurped him of his power or something?
  • This comic also features some commentary, letters from the crew and a battlefield report talking about some weapons shown.
  • Just a quick guess...I think the Autobots will arrive on Earth and find Bumblebee's headless body in GI Joe's custody...problems ensue!

At a harbor in New York City, GI Joe attack a Cobra team, led by Destro, raiding the harbor for some reason, it seems to be going well until Cobra starts using their high tech weapons and vehicles against the Joes and start chasing them off. Destro starts to retreat but one of the troopers tries to take his place in a flight pod. Scrap-Iron kills the trooper and allows himself and Destro to escape, leaving a missile for the Joes to deal with.
The next day, Flint is back at the Utah Joe HQ where he has a talk with Duke about his recent run of bad missions, and he's told to go to The Pit for some R&R. Later a small spaceship crashes into a forest near Mount St. Hilary in Oregon, which Cobra detects and has a local team look into the crash./
Over Cobra Island, Starscream, in a new F015 Jet mode is flying around watching the Cobras move out to the crash-site, and he plans to use the ship as a means to escape Earth in his energy depleted state, when they bring it back to base.
Flint is working out in the weight room, when he gets a call in about the crash and is called out to lead a team to Oregon, along with a new team led by Spirit, who were training in the area at the time.
The two groups meet up in the forest and immediately start attacking the Cobras, who have something under a tarp being airlifted away. The Joes cause the helicopter to explode, and the cargo falls, unveiling two robots, Perceptor and Blaster, unconscious.
Later the Joes return to base with their cargo, where Flint and Spirit are taken to meet with Duke, Scarlett and Stalker, who were all in the team from the Fera Islands in 1939, and they're told about the Transformers and about how Cobra was formed....

and then the company went down, and the series was cancelled.....FUN!!!

Notes
  • Yeah...there was only one issue of this series due to Dreamwave imploding in on itself
  • Most likely characters like Flint, Destro and Snake Eyes are related in some way to the characters in the first G.I. Joe crossover from Dreamwave
  • Whilst the artwork in this comic is nicer than that of the previous series...it's still not very nice...most of the human characters look like they're melting or something
  • Pretty much every time they show a reflection of something it's just a reprinting of an image seen elsewhere in the comic...it just seems lazy to me
  • Starscream being the only Decepticon shown active in this comic may have been because he was disabled before the Matrix blast...but of course there's no way to find out now...
  • Yeah...the scene in the weight room is just weird.....(see above picture for most of it)
  • Flint doesn't seem to be as good as the Flint from the first crossover
  • It seems that one of the Joes on the Fera Islands must have had a camera since they have footage of Optimus and Megatron fighting.

DW - Transformers/G.I. Joe

Plot
Cobra attacks the Fera Islands in the winter of 1938, where during their raid they awaken Megatron who was hidden behind a wall behind a statue and makes contact with Major Bludd, and starts re-activating his fellow Decepticons.
A year later in the summer of 1939 in Virginia several highly trained soldiers are brought together and are debriefed about the recent attacks by Cobra in several countries, with several people going missing in the process. The assembled soldiers are all brought together as a new team: G.I. Joe, who are set to take down Cobra, and it's revealed they have their location, during the meeting Snake-Eyes notices a strange creature in the rafters, and everyone starts shooting at it (Laserbeak) who easily escapes.
The next day Laserbeak returns to Soundwave at the Terrordrome on the Fera Islands. Cobra Commander is trying to be in charge still, despite being surrounded by giant killing robots and other strong Cobra members like Destro. Cobra doesn't care about the Joes being formed as no one knows where they are, and even if they do come, they have the Decepticons to defend them (which Commander has in check with the Matrix he wears around his neck)
At the Joe's launch point in the Shetland Islands and Jaye and Scarlett reveal that they have a map to the Terrordrome, which was scrawled into the hull of a ship. The team head towards the Fera Islands. Meanwhile, some of the Decepticons are in the English Channel discussing their plans to kill Cobra Commander and take the Matrix from him, and then proceed to attack a batch of local aircraft and then raid a power plant of some sort for energy.
Later the Joes airdrop onto the Fera Islands and are immediately attacked by Stormshadow, who challenges Snake-Eyes to a fight due to their past. The rest of the Joes escape and are split up, one group walks into the ruins on the island, and come face to face with a big deactivated robot's head.
The Joes investigate the "dead" robots and accidentally activate the Sky Spy probe, which shoots into the air, scans the local vehicles and remains of vehicles, and proceeds to repair and reactivate the deactivated Autobots and gives them local alternate modes. The Joes get scared and attack the giant monster robot, but end up ceasing when Ironhide saves them from killing themselves with the ricocheting bullets.
Snake-Eyes and Stormshadow continue their fight, Snake-Eyes has his face sliced up, but he's spared death when Stalker saves himwith his gun, chasing off Stormshadow. However rather than regrouping with the others, Snake-Eyes decides to follow Stormshadow again.
Stormshadow orders some Cobra troops to kill Snake-Eyes when he follows him, but the Joe ninja sneaks up on the troops and kills them instead, leaving Stormshadow without backup. Snake-Eyes staunches his wounds and burns his face.
At the site of the Ark's ruins, where the Autobots have just been awoken they tell the Joes about their past and connection with the Decepticons, and make peace with them. The Joes leave to deal with Cobra and the Decepticons, and the Autobots decide to join them.
Megatron learns of the Autobots being revived when he sees the Sky Spy returning. Elsewhere, things aren't going well for Cobra, as the Commander and the others inside the Terrordrome can't contact their troops outside, even Stormshadow. The Commander decides to call in Zartan, despite him being a psychopath.
Elsewhere, the Joes are travelling on foot, when some Decepticon Seekers attack them. Grimlock smashes out of the ground and attacks the Decepticons in his new tank mode.
Snake-Eyes continues to slaughter Cobra troopers in the ruins whilst following Stormshadow, when he finds him, and the giant robotic jaguar Ravage ready to fight him.
The second team of Joes are hiding from some Decepticon Seekers. Elsewhere Stalker is being followed by a Cobra trooper, but manages to kill him and continues looking for the rest of his team, when he encounters an Aerialbot and the rest of the Autobots and Joes from his earlier team, when more Seekers start attacking again.
Elsewhere, Megatron tries to end his partnership with Cobra, but the Commander uses the Matrix to hurt him instead, revealing that he knows the Matrix isn't just some symbol of authority, but capable of hurting Transformers too.
Snake-Eyes fights with Ravage and manages to send him over the edge of the cliff they're on, and drops a grenade on him, knocking him out, he then proceeds to kill the other Cobra troopers in the area, then begins fighting Stormshadow all over again.
A short while away Breaker watches an explosion from the ruins when Zartan appears behind him, shortly "Breaker" finds Flint and asks him to explain their mission plan again. The Autobots and Joes are tearing through some Cobra troops when they encounter Rumble in a Cobra uniform, who uses his pile-drivers to smash up the ground in front of them.
Flint realizes that Breaker is an impostor when he uses the wrong radio to try and call in some reinforcements, and Zartan reveals that he killed Breaker, Soundwave appears from seemingly nowhere and abducts Flint, and attacks the remaining Joes in the area. Zartan and Sounwave fly off with Flint as a prisoner. The rest of the Joes continue with their mission and find a Cobra Airfield.
On another island Rumble is tearing the place up, sending everyone flying. Everyone is overwhelmed, but Scarlett rides Bumblebee above Rumble and drops a grenade on him, disabling him. The Autobots free themselves from the area, but Grimlock's having problems and is falling into a sinkhole. Optimus has the Aerialbots combine into Superion to save him.
The two ninja continue their fight, which ends up in the water, where Stormshadow is attacked by a shark. At the Terrordrome Destro and Starscream look upon their joint project, Bruticus who may need to be activated if the Autobots and Joes continue their mission.
Inside one of the ships at the Cobra airfield, Beach Head tries to get access to the ship's systems, when he's attacked by Frenzy. Beach Head grabs some powercables from the power box on the ship to use as a weapon against the Decepticon.
Outside Lady Jayes sees an explosion from the ship and hopes Beach Head is okay, then enters one of the Cobra planes and starts flying it, with the Cobra pilot Wild Weasel following her in the air.
Snake-Eyes comes out of the water with Stormshadow in his arms, and he dies after acknowledging that Snake-Eyes is a true warrior. Snake-Eyes then finds Ravage injured nearby, so he skewers his head with his blade.
In the Terrordrome, Flint is being held prisoner and is tortured and interrogated by Dr Mindbender and Baroness. At the Airfield,  Beach Head and Frenzy both escape the ship without the explosion causing any damage really, Frenzy is led into an ambush where the Joes shoot at a plane he's near and cause it to explode, badly injuring the Decepticon.
In the air nearby, Wild Weasel goes after Jaye in her plane, but she outmaneuvers him and shoots him out of the sky herself. The team regroup with the Autobots and the other Joes at last.
In the remains of the town of Torhavn near the Terrordrome, Cobra Commander orders that everyone there is to be rounded up and used as a human shield around the base, to stop the Joes and Autobots from attacking.
Back with the Joes and the Autobots, Snake-Eyes, long thought to be dead now, returns and has an emotional moment with Scarlett.
The Autobots and Joes proceed towards the Terrordrome through the water, glad to see there are people being used as slaves there, as that means the Cobras didn't just kill all their prisoners.
Megatron has Shockwave convert to his warship mode and has him shoot at the Autobots, blasting Superion in the process.
The Autobots and Joes are under fire from Shockwave, which causes some of their makeshift boats sink, resulting in Grunt drowning. Jaye and Duke wind on one of the shores and find Major Bludd and the Dreadnoks waiting for them, but they're dispatched by Flint, however Jaye knows that he's a faker, Zartan, and throws a sharp branch at his face, killing him.
The Autobots and some Joes reach the shore as well and engage the Decepticons and Cobras. Megatron reveals that using Shockwave's weapon so much has caused him internal damage, but if the Commander uses the Matrix on him he can be fixed, but Commander doesn't care, and refuses.
Snake-Eyes and Scarlett arrive on the shore together and start off to try and regroup with the others again, when they find Bruticus in the scaffolding of the Terrordrome. Starscream sees Baroness, who reveals that she and Destro are working together against Cobra for their own goals, then she shoots Starscream with a special weapon which disables him. Destro activates Bruticus and has him attack anyone who gets in his way.
Bruticus' awakening causes the mountain to break apart, and traps Cobra Commander under a landslide, his legs are now trapped and he can't get free. Megatron offers to help him by converting into his gun mode, and lands right next to him. Everyone starts attacking Bruticus as he's against everyone.
The Commander can't bring himself to commit suicide, but Baroness arrives, grabs Megatron and kills the Cobra Commander for him. Scarlett then appears behind her and forces her to surrender, dropping Megatron, who transforms again and is attacked by Opitmus before he can grab the Matrix. Snake-Eyes grabs the artifact and Optimus tells him to smash it, as the energy could destroy Bruticus. Snake-Eyes does so and causes a bright explosion.
Destro and Baroness are taken into custody by GI Joe and the Joes look out at the Autobots, who are also dead, with the Matrix having killed them too, and they realize that Optimus knew what would happen all along. Scarlett weeps in Snake-Eyes' arms.

Notes
  • This series is similar in design and basic concept (the Transformers in an older setting on Earth) to those seen in IDW's Hearts of Steel and Sector Seven comics. And like those comics, the artwork and designs are very annoying....
  • Snake-Eyes got his name from his throwing dice at people, and it landing as two 1's (ie Snake Eyes) or so it seems from this comic
  • From the looks of it, Cobra were a pre-cursor to the Nazi's (unless the Nazi's didn't exist in this continuity, and Cobra takes their place...we'll never know of course).
  • The Cobra members seem to keep talking about "the Americans" which implies that Cobra is a foreign organization to the USA.
  • Snake-Eyes' bad facial scars were caused in this continuity by him pouring gunpowder from his bullets onto his face and then setting it alight, to staunch his bleeding face
  • Cobra Commander must have stolen the "Matrix" (which looks more like just a fragment of it to me) from that statue at the start of the comic, as it has a similar glow on it's chest. It also for some reason can hurt Transformers when in it's presence....I'm thinking it was actually something else, but again, we'll never know due to the collapse of Dreamwave.
  • Bruticus is a Cobra invention in this continuity, and Starscream had a hand in his creation...sort of similar to his creation in the G1 Cartoon
  • Baroness's weapon was most likely designed through studying the Matrix that Cobra Commander owns, as it seems to disable Starscream with great ease
  • Ravage seems to be wearing a parachute when he's first seen, implying that he was airdropped in from one of the Seekers.
  • I've decided since the sequel series ended after one issue, that if anyone seems to die in this story, and they aren't seen alive in the sequel, then I'll just say they're dead here...simple enough.
