IDW/TFCC - Balancing Act

Balancing Act Plot
Vector Prime is doing his rounds around the Multiverse and detects that Unicron has been killed (in Energon) and that the balance between good and evil has been disturbed and a giant black hole has been formed that threatens to destroy all of reality. Vector Prime returns to that universe to help them resolve the situation by finding the Omega Lock and Cyber Keys to return the balance.

Some time later Ramjet, his Mini-Cons and Nemesis Prime escape from an interdimensional prison and head to Cybertron to destroy it for their master, Unicron.. Upon arriving on the deserted planet they find some leftover Decepticons and kill them for being annoying. Vector Prime returns to Cybertron following some adventures on Earth and meets with Alpha Trion, whom is also trying to help out with the mission by summoning Sentinel Maximus (from the Universe: Wreckers comics/prose) to aid them, and informs them that Ramjet has escaped his jail.
Before anything can happen however Ramjet and Nemesis Prime attack them, and badly injures Alpha Trion and damages Vector Sigma before leaving.

Alpha Trion is placed in a CR chamber for repairs, and Vector Prime explains that Ramjet was imprisoned eons ago and that Nemesis Prime was once an Optimus Prime who was corrupted by Unicron in the past. Elsewhere Scorponok's corpse is revived and he is turned into an Energon-hungry zombie. Also, Skyfall arrives on the planet from Velocitron in his shuttle and immediately comes across a hoard of Scrapmetals and Dark Scorponok. Ramjet and Nemesis Prime continue their plot to use the Dead Matrix, held inside Nemesis to destroy Primus' spark on this Cybertron, and then use the Singularity to spread that death across all realities and destroy Primus everywhere.

Skyfall manages to use his forcefield powers to defend against Dark Scorponok's attacks, but is defeated when a building is detonated nearby and collapses on top of them. Ramjet's Mini-Cons approach Scorponok and offer him more fuel if he comes with them, taking him to the Energon reserves in Kalis, where Sentinel Maximus and Vector Prime have just arrived too, thus a battle ensues.
Elsewhere, Skyfall, having freed himself is found by Ramjet who says that he knows who Skyfall really is (which Skyfall doesn't) and will tell him if he helps him out

Scorponok gets the upper hand in his battle with Sentinel Maximus, but is killed when an unknown ally shoots Scorponok with the Auto-Guns, afterwards Downshift contacts them over the communicators calling for help, the two use Vector Prime's sword to warp over there, and join the battle before Downshift can be killed.

Vector Prime and Ramjet fly off, smashing out of the planet and into the atmosphere for their battle, whilst Sentinel Maximus chases Nemesis Prime through the tunnels, but is trapped under rubble, allowing Nemesis Prime to enter Primus' spark chamber and opens the Dead Matrix....
Revelations Plot
Vector Prime manages to take down Ramjet using his Cyber Key Power and destabilizes him, Skyfall sees this and screams out in protest as he needs him for information. Inside Primus' spark chamber Nemesis Prime is attacked by a newly arrived Omega Prime (from Robots in Disguise) who splits apart to deal with this situation.
Above, Vector Prime is about to seal Ramjet in a prison again when Skyfall appears and tries to defend him, but when Ramjet tries to use Skyfall's shield too it overloads and sends him hurtling into the prison anyway. In the chamber again Optimus Prime uses his Matrix to fix the damage caused by Nemesis Prime's Dead Matrix whilst Magnus is beating down the evil Prime, afterwards Sentinel Maximus breaks free of the rubble and the three start to talk.

Later, everyone regroups and Optimus and Magnus explain how they were on their way back to their own dimension following the destruction of the Unicron they were on during the Universe Conflict, but were transported here for some reason. Vector Prime is about to reveal to the others who Skyfall is, and why he is so important to keep safe, when suddenly he is transported away. The transporter reveals himself as Over-Run, the former leader of the Mini-Cons who died by Starscream's hand a few years ago, but was able to upload his mind into Cybertron itself, and that he was the one who killed Scorponok before.
Vector Prime has returned to Earth, where he rejoins the mission, and Over-Run asks the others to help him to fix Cybertron, and Vector Sigma, and to also place the Dead Matrix from Nemesis Prime into the rare items locker.

Later, Soundwave sends Laserbeak into the locker and retrieves the Dead Matrix and flings it into the black hole, freeing Unicron's spark. The spark flies into the planet Yst, where his presence corrupts the planet and it's inhabitants, turning them cannibal until the planet dies and explodes over time, creating a new body for Unicron, freeing him.

Later, Sentinel and Skyfall are fixing Vector Sigma and Over-Run shows Skyfall an image he found that seems to resemble him, with another figure from over 25 million cycles ago, during their investigations and repairs they receive a message from the Mini-Con Anti-Blaze who says there's some Decepticon and Decepticon-allied Mini-Cons causing problems at an Energon Mining Facility.
The Autobots agree to help and head to the mining asteroids above Cybertron and meets the Mini-Cons who called for help. A battle ensues between the Autobots and Decepticons (and the affiliated Mini-Cons), and the battle is watched by Unicron and Soundwave, who plan to join in too.
During the battle Skyfall encounters the Decepticon Landquake, and both seem to recognize eachother from somewhere. After some more battling between the others Unicron appears and starts slaughtering the Mini-Cons, and revealing that he was responsible for the uprising of the bad Mini-Cons here. The battle goes insane with the inclusion of Unicron, but gets stranger when Cybertron starts to fall apart nearby.

Skyfall and Landquake use their Energon based powers to protect themselves from the battle, as they both want to discuss their shared past, however the battle destabilizes the Energon and causes it to explode, seemingly killing the duo, much to the shock of Sentinel Maximus.
The battle continues until Cybertron fully transforms into Primus, and Unicron is scared off.
Later the Autobots meet up with the local Optimus Prime and his team, and learn of Vector Prime's death. The displaced Optimus promises to track down Unicron and defeat him, whilst the Mini-Con Council of Sages plan to take down all the remaining insurgents from the attack earlier, and everyone mourns the death of their pal Skyfall.

Somewhere very, very far away Skyfall and Landquake are spat out of a portal where they are encountered by the Megatron of the Classicsverse.

Notes
  • This is the IDW collection of the first 2 years of TFCC comics, to make it easier for me I'm just combining them here, especially since it's one big storyline
  • It turns out Vector Prime has witnessed and intervened whenever a cataclysmic event occurs, such as when the Predacon Megatron tried to kill Optimus Prime whilst sleeping
  • This story implies that the Cybertron TV series is actually a sequel to the Armada and Energon Dreamwave comic, with Over-Run's involvement, and also shows his fate from that aborted series
  • This story also shows that with Unicron's death the Unicron nodule from the Universe series (also aborted) just died as well, and so all the captured Transformers escape through a Space Bridge.
  • The "bad" Mini-Cons appear to be using the Energon weapons generated by the Terrorcons
  • Scrapmetals might be Terrorcons as well, considering what Ramjet says
  • The Mini-con who was with Landquake when he's introduced is unnamed, but was probably his Mini-Con partner.
  • Downshift's drastically different bodies from the Energon and Cybertron lines are explained here as being because he was so badly injured in his earlier body, that he needed to reformat for repairs.
  • Here's a confusing thing, the Mini-Con insurgents are made up of Mini-Cons that were from both Autobots and Decepticons in the Cybertron toyline, and also include a Skyblast as well!

At Omega One Raf and Bulkhead are playing the new game with Ratchet disapproving in the background when Raf suddenly begins to act weird and starts obeying a voice from his screen that only he can see and starts recalibrating the Ground Bridge coordinates to ones sent by Megatron and opens it up, allowing a flood of Vehicons into the base.
The Autobots activate their defenses and have the humans hide with Raf to try and fix him. Miko notices that the game box has a Decepticon insignia on it and yanks the system out of the TV, ending the hypnotic control and freeing Raf, who is unaware of what has happened. Raf runs to the Ground Brodge controls and reverses the coordinates, and cause a vacuum in the base, the Autobots and Humans hold onto the defensive protrusions whilst the Vehicons and sucke dout of the base through the Bridge and sent base to where they came from.
After the fight everyone recovers and Raf throws out the game and says that he'll lay off them for a while, all whilst Ratchet makes a joke about how games are safe until someone loses a limb, whilst fondling a severed Vehicon arm...YIKES!

Comic Notes
  • For no apparent reason Arcee is missing from this issue
  • Soundwave talks happily away here, unlike his silent stance in the series
  • What exactly makes the glasses "4D"?
  • Why is Raf playing with Bulkhead instead of his fellow game junkie Bumblebee?
  • For some reason Raf can see perfectly when hypnotized as he can navigate the base and type in coordinates without his glasses on...
  • The Autobots have pop up shields in their base, much like those seen in the War For Cybertron games
  • Why did the Decepticons put an insignia on their game box?

Storyline
Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonus have found Gorlam Prime as a deserted world but can't find any real reason why, all they know is that everyone just disappeared one day with no trace. The team go for a ride to try and find out more, and Galvatron reveries about all that had happened to him lately, from him being thrown into the Solar Pool at Garrus-9, resurfacing and scaring the guards into letting him leave, afterwhich he flew to Gorlam Prime and found Cyclonus and Scourge dying and learns that it's been years since he disappeared. Galvatron restores his Seekers to their former glory and manipulated them into being willing to help him again in finding out what happened to Gorlam Prime, leading to this moment.
Galvatron leads his team underground to the old excavation tunnels to try and find the silver water portal. They find several of the Micromaster's bodies from when Arcee killed them trying to get at Jhiaxus, and once inside they find that the portal has disappeared, and on top of that they find Jhiaxus' half-dead body lying on the ground where he explained that Arcee was killing him repeatedly for a long time, until Hardhead led her away and they both disappeared a few years ago.
Galvatron uses the power of the Heart of Darkness to revive and repair Jhiaxus, like he did to Scourge and Cyclonus earlier. The group try to find out what happened to the portal when Jhiaxus detects similar energies to the portal down a corridor. The group follow the corridor and find it filled with alien artifacts and markings and then they find a sphere of silver water hovering in the middle of a room. Galvatron goes to touch it, but is blasted by a returning Arcee and Hardhead, who are intent on killing the Cybertronians.

The two Autobots are easily tearing through the four Cybertronians, until an injured Galvatron touches the portal and taps into the power of the Dead Universe and repairs himself, he then attacks the Autobots. Hardhead tells Arcee to leave and warn the other Autobots offworld about Galvatron, and so she transforms and rides away, leaving Hardhead to take the brunt of Galvatron's attacks. Cyclonus chases Arcee and manages to cause the bridge she is riding along to blow up, sending her plummeting.
Galvatron taps into his new prisoner, Hardhead's mind and sees how his memories. In the past Hardhead returns from exploring the cities to find Arcee and the denizens of Gorlam Prime, even the crippled body of Jhiaxus all trying to reach the silver water, entering it, and disappearing. Arcee was spared by Hardhead grabbing her, and Jhiaxus couldn't reach it. Suddenly there was a flash of light and all the left behinds were knocked out, when they woke up, there was the silver water sphere in place of the pool. Arcee and Hardhead went looking for answers until Galvatron and the others came.
Galvatron warps Hardhead's mind and makes him his to command, and then he walks into the sphere to investigate it. Inside the sphere he sees a massively chaotic scene which makes no sence and starts hearing words about the D-Void whilst being torn apart, down to his skeletal features. The D-Void tries to devour Galvatron, but he manages to escape and leaves the water (fully restored) scared and blasting the sphere, trying to kill the D-Void. He says that D-Void feasts on sparks, and that it's going after Cybertron, and they have to stop it.
Elsewhere Arcee climbs out of the chasm she was blasted into and decides that she has to warn the other Autobots about Galvatron.

In the vapours of Spindrift a Bloomship and it's crew are busy hunting when they're attacked by a Cloud Leviathan, when suddenly they are saved by Galvatron killing the Leviathan. He boards the ship with his crew and they start scanning, confusing the hunters, but Galvatron detects a Cybertronian lifesign in the Wheelhouse, he uses his powers to revive it, and he is revived as Thinkbox and he's conscripted into Galvatron's team, they abandon the hunters and return to their own ship.
They travel to an old Cybertronian battle site on the planet where Galvatron proceeds to revive all the dead combatants and adds them to his ranks to challenge the D-Void.
They all return to the main ship in orbit and Jhiaxus activates the Space Bridge system on the ship which takes them to several other old battlefields on various worlds, allowing Galvatron to build up his army to the millions, returning to Gorlam Prime where they have made their base of operations.
The team is taken to Dykayra where they have located ruins similar to those seen in the tunnels under Gorlam Prime, so they decide to investigate where Galvatron finds some dead Cybertronians that even he can't revive with his new powers. Galvatron and some of the others enter a temple where they find another silver water sphere like on Gorlam Prime, and they find an old friend exiting it...Nemesis Prime, whom is possessed by the D-Void.

Galvatron is shocked to be in the presence of his old commander again, whilst Nemesis Prime has been waiting for this moment for some time now, since Galvatron killed him. Nemesis goes after Galvatron, and the two fight, they fight through a wall in the temple and end up outside, where some of Galvatron's troops assist their commander, but to no avail as Nemesis Prime uses D-Void's power to drain the life from some of his troops and kills them.
D-Void takes full control of Nemesis Prime and mutates his body into a larger, more monstrous one. Galvatron and his loyal troops attack D-Void but they can#'t cause him any damage, until Scourge returns with the whole army and they blast him into the silver water sphere again and Galvatron destroys the sphere. However he understands that this was just a part of D-Void and the real thing will be much stronger and that he needs more help.
Galvatron heads to Earth and helps Optimus Prime deal with some zombies and asks him to join him against D-Void, but he refuses. Jhiaxus Space Bridges Galvatron back to Gorlam Prime before leading his army to Cybertron.
Once they arrive on Cybertron the army starts to spread out and search the planet, when a Sweep finds Hot Rod and Wheelie and chases them. Galvatron sends out more of his troops to chase him and try and get him and his group to join them, but he reaches his ship and takes off into orbit. Galvatron waits on Cybertron for when D-Void arrives.

Notes
  • It turns out that it's been years between the end of Revelation and Galvatron being reborn, now considering that, that implies that he was reborn AFTER Last Stand of the Wreckers (since All Hail Megatron, which is when LSOTW's beginning is set is about a year after Revelation) so that means that since there are Autobot guards on Garrus-9, that implies that the Autobots have retaken the facility and are rebuilding it.
  • When Galvatron enters the silver water sphere he is shown a vast number of alternate versions of himself and Megatron, including some voice actors who played them, and some toys of him. However Megatron is separate to Galvatron in IDW, so why he's there is just confusing
  • Thinkbox was an ancient Headmaster, due to his size it would imply that he formed the head of a larger robot (maybe Metroplex sized?)
  • Galvatron's re-population of the species increases the Transformer race's numbers from the 10,000 mentioned by Prowl in his Spotlight issue to more than 1,000,000
  • There are a lot of generic characters in this comic..but it's fun to give them names!!!
  • One of the revived Transformers has taken on the form of a blue tape player...Twincast anyone?
  • Hardhead is shown fighting alongside Galvatron's crew here, but in later stories he's shown to still be with Arcee...DAMN YOU CONTINUITY!!!!
  • It's likely that this was originally meant to be a Galvatron mini-series (like Drift, Ironhide and Bumblebee were) but it was changed for some reason.
  • The red Garrus-9 guard seems to be based on the Marvel Crossovers figure Venom's robot mode, but with a new head
  • It's not clear why Hardhead was immune to the silver water's call, but no one else on Gorlam Prime was...

My Thoughts

Art

The artwork isn't bad, it's just quite simple looking or have needless extra details, compared to most other things in this continuity so far. The colours are very nice.

Story

This story explains what Galvatron and his troops have been up to lately and does so pretty well in my opinion

Continuity

This story is set after Revelation, during the All Hail Megatron Coda issue Rebirth, Infestation and during the Space Opera section of Chaos Theory's TPB, and leads directly into Chaos as well.

Other

The characters mostly keep their character models from the previous IDW titles, albeit simplified. Galvatron has randomly been given a new tank mode, possibly based on his Universe toy, but not actually resembling it, this is the only place it's been seen so far. Jhiaxus' vehicle mode seems to be an F22 jet, much like the Movie-continuity Starscream which was the basis for Jhiaxus' redesign here originally as well.
Despite being called Nemesis Prime in all his appearances, he actually uses his Nova Prime colours!

Storyline

Cyclonus is making one of his usual journeys over Cybertron whilst on a mission, and is depressed by the site of his one beautiful home destroyed as it is now and he decides to make someone pay for it. Nearby, Ark-12 has just left Cybertron on the way to Garrus-9 where, where Sideswipe is moaning about wnating to go and save Sunstreaker still, which annoys Hound once again. Suddenly the ship is attacked by Cyclonus and they fire back at the powerful Transformer, and they seemingly destroy him. Hound has his team launch a buoy to mark his placement and contact a nearby team, as they're needed on Garrus-9 now. Suddenly Cyclonus is back and starts attacking again.
Nearby Ultra Magnus is called by Optimus Prime to come to Garrus-9 to investigate the Monstructor Six's kidnapping, he agrees to go, whilst on the way Ultra Magnus picks up a distress call from Ark-12 and redirects himself to help them.
On Garrus-9 Optimus and his team have arrived and they learned that one of the downed ships from the attack had a tortured member (obviously due to Arcee) and Optimus starts to set up base there. On Ark-32 in orbit round the planet Nightbeat has looked into his logs from his Gorlam Prime mission and doesn't remember any of it. He decides to head back to the planet and to take Hardhead with him for help.
Ark-12 is still under attack from Cyclonus, but Ultra Magnus arrives and scares off the Transformer, who turns back to his mission. Magnus and Hound's team go after Cyclonus. Arcee has infiltrated the Decepticon Battle Platform Zuska and tortures one of the crew men as to where Banzaitron took the Gestalt, he agrees to tell her everything.
Cyclonus arrives at Corata-Vaz and prepares to activate the Nega-Core and the Guardian, he does the first willingly, but doesn't want to activate the Guardian after what it did to Cybertron in the past, so he leaves the cave unguarded.
Upon leaving the cave he encounters Ultra Magnus and Hound's team and they begin to fight, and after being beaten down by them Cyclonus launches his hand into the cave and activates the Guardian, Thunderwing, who immediately starts attacking Magnus and Hound's team, Cyclonus leaves the planet to return home, whilst Magnus launches a tracking device to follow Cyclonus.
Magnus reports this to Optimus who wants Jetfire to find out what's in the cave and to summon the Wreckers to Corata-Vaz to take on Thunderwing. Meanwhile in the Benzuli Expanse Nemesis Prime and his new faction are preparing to complete their plans.

Notes

  • Cyclonus is still very patriotic about Cybertron, despite being gone for so long
  • Hound's team haven't replaced the deceased Leadfoot yet
  • Hound's ship is Ark-12
  • Cyclonus can launch his hand...ewwww
  • Skram isn't seen with the rest of his crew, this is most likely because he's needed on the ship still
  • Straxus and Grindcore are shown to be part of the Expansion faction as well.
  • Whilst reviewing the mission logs from Gorlam Prime, Nightbeat sees himself drawn the way he was in his Spotlight

My Thoughts

Art

The artwork is mostly standard in terms of the lines for the IDW continuity so far, but the colours are much more realistic than most earlier pieces

Story

This is the first part of the Revelation series that concludes the Dead Universe storyline

Continuity

Cybertron was devastated in Stormbringer. Hound's team was ordered to Earh and then Garrus-9 in Devastation. The Monstructor Six was kidnapped and Garrus-9 was attacked in Spotlight: Arcee. Nightbeat is investigating his lost time from his own Spotlight, which he began doing in Devastation. Arcee began hunting for Jhiaxus in Spotlight: Arcee. Thunderwing was kidnapped in Spotlight: Galvatron.

Gorlam Prime residents Frozen

Storyline

Nightbeat and Hardhead head out to Gorlam Prime and Nightbeat makes Hardhead promise that if he goes weird or it's like someone else is in control then he must kill him on sight. On Gorlam Prime Nightbeat notes that the planet has changed a lot since his last visit (from records) and that they are slowly becoming Cybertronian, and are currently in a frozen state. The two Autobots transform and look for more clues and head to the Excavation site he went to last time when they run into several Micromasters, who immediately attack the Autobots, and they go on the run from the tiny robots.
The Wreckers have arrived on Corata-Vaz and join Hound's team in attacking Thunderwing but aren't doing too well. Omega Supreme is able to identify Galvatron and Cyclonus as members of the original Ark's crew. Optimus recalls that it's destination was supposed to be the Benzuli Expanse, so they decide to investigate it.
In the Dead Universe Nemesis Prime is on-board the decaying Ark and thinking about how it's all going to end soon, and they can rejoin the living universe. Jhiaxus announced that the three Nega-Cores have all been activated and their Guardians as well, but also tells him that the Autobots have noticed all this, and have started attacking Thunderwing, and also that Nightbeat is on Gorlam Prime. Nemesis Prime is confident that Thunderwing can handle the Autobots, but has Jhiaxus deal with Nightbeat himself.
On Gorlam Prime the Autobots have reached Excavation Site 4, where Nightbeat went to last time, and have to keep outrunning Micromasters as well. The two Autobots enter the site when Nightbeat suddenly loses conciousness and Jhiaxus takes over his mind, points a gun between Hardhead's eyes and shoots it.
Arcee arrives in the Orcibe Cluster and finds Banzaitron's downed ship and learns that the Gestalt has been taken. Arcee goes to kill Banzaitron, but the Decepticon tells him that they tagged the component parts, so they know where they are, and invites Arcee to come with them to find Jhiaxus and Monstructor.
Back on Gorlam Prime, Hardhead reveals that his name is actually literal when he survive sthe point blank shot with just a mark to show. Hardhead goes on the run from Nightbeat and the now assembled Micromasters and winds up in the Silver Water room where Nightbeat/Jhiaxus explains that the water is a portal to the Dead Universe, and that by going through it he'll turn die and be connected to the Dead Universe as well.
Hardhead puts up his gun and shoots Nightbeat, killing him and the Micromasters attack, Hardhead goes under the water. In the Dead Universe Jhiaxus feels Nightbeat's death and screams. Nemesis Prime laments that this means that he has to kill Optimus himself now, rather than using Nightbeat to do it for him. Cloudburst and his team arrive at the Benzuli Expanse and find it gone, replaced with an anomaly and reports it to Jetfire, and also tells him that nothing they've sent into the hole has survived long enough for any telemetry, which gives Jetfire an idea.
At Garrus-9 Jetfire tells Optimus his plan to use the Pretender process on Cloudburst's team to investigate the anomaly,a nd he reluctantly agrees. Searchlight tells Optimus that he has Dealer on the line for him, and he takes the call, where Dealer suggests that they use the Magnificence to learn everything about this incident.

Notes

  • Nightbeat's primary goal as a sleeper agent is revealed to have been to kill Optimus Prime
  • SO MANY MICROMASTERS!!! ARGH!!!!
  • Optimus learns that the original Ark's original destination was the Benzuli Expanse here
  • The Ark is shown to be crumbling to pieces after millennia of exposure to the Dead Universe
  • Nightbeat's license plate says M1N-3RV4, which is a reference to his repaint Minerva
  • Gorlam Prime seems to be an experiment by Jhiaxus to recreate the universe in the Cybertronian image
  • Treadshot is seen dead on Banzaitron's ship...yet is later seen alive....
  • Hardhead has had to kill an ally before

My Thoughts

Art

The artwork in this comic is more cartoon-like that the rest of Revelation, as is Nick Roche's style, the colours are strong and well defined as well.

Story

This is part two of the Revelation storyline, and very swiftly puts an end to Nightbeat's storyline

Continuity

Nightbeat was made a sleeper agent in his own Spotlight, and the Micromasters were first shown there as well. Arcee catches up with the Secret Service, who kidnapped the Monstructor Six in Spotlight: Arcee, but finds them missing and the crew badly damaged. Dealer and the Magnificence's storyline was first introduced in Spotlight: Hot Rod. The Wreckers were last seen in Stormbringer

Other

Despite being seen before now, it is very apparent here that Nightbeat's character model and vehicle mode is based on Movie Jazz's

Storyline

Dealer heads to Earth and convinces Hot Rod to take him to where the Magnificence is, and he reluctantly agrees. Grindcore and Straxus arrive on Earth in China and set up a drill to mine the Ore-13 needed for the Expansion to take place. In the Benzuli Expanse, Cyclonus and Galvatron (and presumably others) patrol the perimeter and go after any ships that come close, including the Mirror-Manifold (Cloudburst's ship). Nemesis Prime arrives at Garrus-9 to kill Optimus but is met by a large detail of Autobot guards, but easily kills 2 of them. Optimus tells Fortress Maximus to call off his guards as he has to take on Nemesis Prime himself.
Hot Rod takes Dealer back to Ki-Aleta and they visit the Omega Bunker, where Hot Rod wonders what went wrong the first place, but he manages to convince Hot Rod to take them to where the Magnificence is. On board the Nightbird, the Technobots are finalizing the Pretender shells for Cloudburst's team and worry that they'll end up like Bludgeon did, and then recieve a distress signal from Cloudburst regarding Cyclonus. Jetfire gets the idea to use a duplicate of Bludgeon's Axis Cradle Override system to control Thunderwing like Bludgeon did in the past.
Optimus goes to confront Nemesis Prime at Garrus-9's sub levels, where Nemesis attacks Optimus with the Darkness causing him pain as he approaches him.
Back on Ki-Aleta Hot Rod is still questioning things and begins to wonder about Dealer's loyalty and starts to think how odd it was that Dealer was allowed to live that day. They reach the Magnificence and Hot Rod tests it, unaware that Dealer is about to shoot him in the back. Hot Rod asks the Magnificence if Dealer betrayed them, and it says "YES!". Hot Rod spins around and shoots Dealer off the cliff face and causes him to fall to his death.
Later Hot Rod contacts Ultra Magnus and relays all the information he gained from the Magnificence and explains that the thing in the cave is a Nega-Core and there are two more in Rotan and on Bhul (the Stellar Cartography Archive) and that Monstructor and Sixshot have also been made into Guardians as well as Thunderwing, he also reveals that Nemesis Prime's plan is to expand the Dead Universe everywhere. He also says that they're mining Earth for Ore-13 as well, and that the whole thig is being coordinated through a Space Bridge hub on Gorlam Prime.
On Gorlam Prime Jetfire is getting ready to take control of Thunderwing and lets Springer know, meanwhile Jhiaxus learns of this when Thunderwing starts being taken over and decides to take over Bludgeon's empty shell using another Axis Cradle to attack Jetfire (who is on the same planet remember)

Notes
  • Hot Rod hasn't found Sunstreaker yet, but has been beating up Headmasters
  • The Expansion are using Space Bridges to get to the different planets needed
  • Earth was needed by the Expansion for the Ore-13
  • Shockwave used to be Jhiaxus' understudy
  • Manta Ray is killed by a Necrotic Touch, much like his wave mate Leadfoot was
  • Hot Rod left the Magnificence on Ki-Aleta, where he found it
  • The Technobot's ship is called the Nightbird, after the G1 character
  • The Matrix has been corrupted by the Darkness
  • Dealer seems to be having second thoughts about his past actions in this story
  • Dealer considers keeping the Magnificence instead of giving it to the Secret Service (double dealing again)

My Thoughts

Art

The artwork in this comic is very detailed and the colours are very strong and detailed as well

Story

Part 3 of the Revelation series and ends the Hot Rod/Double Dealer storyline

The Pretender process was introduced in Stormbringer. Optimus meets with Nova Prime after meeting with him digitally in Escalation. Sixshot was kidnapped by the Expansion in Devastation, and Monstructor was kidnapped in Spotlight: Arcee. Bludgeon was revealed to be incarcerated in Garrus-9 in Spotlight: Arcee.

Storyline

Sideswipe and the rest of Hound's team arrive on Earth with Fortress Maximus and take on Straxus and Grindcore, to stop them from mining the Ore-13. Hound and Fort Max secure the Space Bridge whilst the others fight and Ultra Magnus coordinates the Autobot's attacks on the Expansion. Cloudburst's team are rescued at the last second from Cyclonus and brought aboard the Nightbird where they are equipped with their Pretender Shells and head out to both take out Cyclonus and invade the Dead Universe.
Jetfire has taken command of Thunderwing, allowing the Wreckers to get into the cave and approach the Nega-Core, however Bludgeon, under the control of Jhiaxus enters the room where Jetfire is working and distracts him, freeing Thunderwing again. In the sub-levels of Garrus-9 Nemesis Prime and Optimus are fighting with Nemesis currently winning by using the Darkness. Neither Prime know that they are being watched.
On Earth Hound and the others head through the Space Bridge to complete their missions whilst Sideswipe stays to beat up the two Expansion Transformers. Skram is sent to Rotan to collect Arcee, who is fighting Monstructor along with the Decepticon Secret Service. On Garrus-9 Jetfire works out that Jhiaxus isn't able to handle controlling all the Guardians and isn't able to concentrate on every target, especially now that the Pretenders have defeated Cyclonus and have entered the Dead Universe as well.
The Autobots move the Nega-Cores through the Space Bridges and send them into the Dead Universe, whilst Skram escorts Arcee to Gorlam Prime through the Space Bridge and she immediately starts attacking Jhiaxus. Optimus is losing his fight, when suddenly Nemesis Prime is killed by Galvatron and the Darkness seeps into Optimus. Galvatron approaches Optimus and offers to take the Darkness from him, which he agrees to, however once it is gone Optimus flings Galvatron into a Solar Pool, seemingly killing him.
The Pretenders gather the Nega-Cores in the Dead Universe into one location and leaves it, the Cores explode and destroys the Dead Universe, sealing off the Anomaly as well. On Gorlam Prime Arcee is tearing through the Micromasters as Jhiaxus runs away from her, but just as he reaches the safety of the silver water Hardhead rises out of it, and prevents him from hiding. Arcee skewers the Transformer.
On Garrus-9 Optimus looks at his predecessor and says he won't mourn him, as Nova Prime died when Nemesis Prime was born. On Earth Sideswipe looks at the now dead Straxus and Grindcore and decides that he doesn't need to catch up to Sunstreaker to prove anything to him, so he just leaves the planet. In Gorlam Prime Arcee finds out that she can't actually kill Jhiaxus in this place since he's un-dead, but that suits her as she's able to just keep killing him over and over again.
After a while Gorlam Prime is returned to normal and the denizens start to call it Cybertron, and then as Jetfire reveries over the future adventures as he watches the new Cybertron Galvatron starts to climb out of the Solar Pool.

Notes

  • Sideswipe is the only member of his team to take on an Earth mode in this story, this is most likely because he planned to stay on Earth after the current mission.
  • The Technobots perfect the Pretender Process in a span of less than 2 issues? Yeah....
  • Jetfire borrows Bludgeon's Axis Cradle design to control Thunderwing and Jhiaxus does the same with Bludgeon's body.
  • Despite the pretender shells the Dead Universe still affects the Autobot Pretenders
  • The Matrix is cleansed of the Darkness by it first jumping into Optimus after Nova Prime's death and then transferring into Galvatron
  • It's not shown here, but Optimus must take the Matrix from Nova Prime's body
  • Hardhead has now joined the Dead Universe by jumping in the silver pool before.
  • It's never revealed what happens to Nova Prime's body
  • Sunstreaker and Sideswipe aren't really brothers, Sunstreaker was basically his superior officer who kept making him feel insignificant, and the reason why he wanted to rescue him was because he wanted to show off to Sunstreaker.
  • Gorlam Prime being an organic world with organic life becoming robots is oddly similar to the Go-Bots storyline....

My Thoughts

Art

The artwork in this comic is simply beautiful, the character models and colours combined are made to look very realistic, and yet still feels like a G1 series rather than being Live Action based.

Story

This concludes the Revelation series, and most of the first storyline's plot points.

Continuity

Sideswipe began trying to get to Earth since Spoltight: Galvatron, now that he's here..he just leaves at the end. The Autobots have perfected the Pretender Process since it's faulty introduction in Stormbringer and is later used again to revive Kup in the All Hail Megatron's Coda. Arcee finally catches Jhiaxus, after starting in Spotlight: Arcee. The Dead Universe is destroyed here, and ends it's threat for now, with most of it's members dying on the spot. Gorlam Prime starts to resemble Cybertron more, and will be returned to in Heart of Darkness. Galvatron's revival takes place in All Hail Megatron's Coda and Heart of Darkness. Nova Prime/Nemesis Prime reappears in a manner in Heart of Darkness. The Rise of the Machination Empire and Shockwave's Resurgence happens in Maximum Dinobots, and Megatron's All-Out Assault happens in All Hail Megatron.
